like many, I am very stressed for time. Between getting my son ready, working out myself, taking shower, getting breakfast, packing, and putting on makeup... I have no time for my hair.
It is mid to long (maybe 2-3 inches past bottom of shoulders)... has some long layers and is slightly wavy more like straight with the one side having bumps (un-evenly, so not pretty wavy, but does not generally frizz).
I have occasionally started to put some light gel in my hair, part it, comb it into a pretty bun on the back of my head, put pins in and go... it usually looks kind of shiny (but not really wet) by the time I get to work. it is damp all day if I took it down (but you can't tell that).
So-- do you think this is a professional no/no. I would think a pined bun would be ok, but it is kind of severe (as it is pretty flat in teh front). I am lucky in that I think it looks ok as my husband says I look amazing with my hair like that, but I just questioned it as it seems most people have blown out bobs around here at work.
Thoughts?
Re: Is this a no/no?
I am picturing Lilith.
Severe, yes, but I don't think it's unprofessional.

I don't think it's ness. a no-no....but I have read that putting your hair up repeatedly when it's wet can be damaging (although so it heat related styling)

I am a supervising in-house attorney... so I wear suits or pencil skirts/cardigans, or the like depending on what I am doing that day.
I am also not that "young"... I am 41, but I look much younger according to everyone:) LOL
It kind of looks like the picture, but my hair is lighter, so maybe more like Jennifer Lopez when she wears a low bun (I don't wear high ones).
I don't do this evey day... I said occasionally. I would say it is one or 2 times a week, sometimes none during a week.
I never do it if I meeting clients or in an important meeting.
My hair takes longer to do short... when it was a chin length bob it took 45 minutes to do every morning. I had it even shorter (like Meg Ryan's from the 90s) about 12 years ago and that also took at least 25 minutes.
My long hair takes about 25 minute to blow out, so it is not going to be easier shorter (at chin lenght I have to use a curling iron and a flat iron on top of blow drying to make it lay correctly, long just a blow dryer works).
I can't do night showers... I have tried. I run 3-5 miles and lift almost every morning, so it is needs to be pulled up. When I try and wear it down after that (or even up) my head itches all day, I feel unfresh, and down it looks horrible unless I put it in hot rollers and then it only lasts about half the day.
Beleive me, I wish I could find something easier... I hate doing my hair at this point in my life. I used to be a huge hair person... and spent a long time on it and now it is just such a hassle.
thanks for the ideas... it seems kind of split.

But, from the sounds of it, u don't think it looks bad. So, go with your gut.
I don't think it looks unprofessional... but I also don't think I look as pretty (although my husband disagrees) as when it is down. It also does not look wet... what I am picturing that you and the other poster are saying is like a totally wet bun like if you jumped out of the shower and would wear at the beach and it does not look like that.
It looks more done that that.
I wish I could find a different style that could be dried and styled in 15 minutes or less... that would be perfect, but I don't think that is going to happen with my hair type.
I think it is fine. Based on your description, it sounds like it is "done" enough that no one will notice. If you feel comfortable, and haven't gotten any looks from people, I think there is your answer.
It would be nice to look one's best every day, but a lot of the time, other things are more important.
When I work out and need to go to work afterwards, I get into the shower and rinse my roots only, if that makes any sense. Then I blow them dry straight up, add a little dry shampoo if necessary, and curl just the ends with a big barrel iron. This takes all of 5-10 extra minutes since you're showering already.
I don't know if this helps, but for me, when I am pressed for time, I still try to blow dry as much as possible, especially my roots. I will still put my hair into a bun, but I like to make sure it looks like my hair was dry before I did it. I think it looks a little more professional, and it only takes a little more time. Plus I am able to get more volume in my roots, so it looks better IMO.
Wearing your hear back every now and then isn't so bad, it's all in how it looks.
I think if you are looking like this, its bad (IMO)
But something more like this is better, but maybe a little cleaner...I just think the fact that it was dry, so there is volume, shows that it isn't shower->bun...
