I did it! C25K 20 minute run

I did my 20 minute run this morning.  I set my app on my phone to update me with my speed/distance every 2 minutes.  I apparently lost count because I thought I was at 18 minutes when I heard "you have completed your run today."  I almost cried.  I was really out of gas at that point.  I was able to maintain my pace the whole way (11mm) and completed 1.81mi in 20 minutes.  I know I'm not going to be winning any races at that pace, but it is much faster than I was running 5 weeks ago.

Thank you so much for the tips and encouragement this week.  You know what really helped me?  The "does the first mile ever get easier?" post.  For the first mile, I kept telling myself, even marathon runners think this is the hardest part.  My 5K is in 4 weeks, and I can't wait!!

  • Congrats! That's an amazing pace for still doing the program!!!

  • That is awesome!!!!  Congratulations!! :)
  • This is awesome!  It was an amazing feeling to get that one out of the way.

You'll be SO prepared for your 5K.  I had only run my 25 minute run before my 5K and I ended up running it in 37 minutes, so I ran for 12 minutes longer than I'd ever run before.  You could do it next weekend, if you wanted!

  • That's amazing!! Congrats.

(And can I just say that I'm doing the C25K right now to get outdoor running started and I'm now officially TERRIFIED of week 5.) But I feel a little better knowing that I can do it. Right? lol.

    That's awesome! Congrats!!

Today is my last day of week 4 - I'm so nervous about next week!

I'm on week 4 day 2, and I'm also really nervous for week 5.

It's funny, I psych myself out every week and think I'm not going to meet the new milestones, but I haven't failed yet.  I just have to keep telling myself that I will do it.

What's really helped for me is doing day 1 on the treadmill and then heading outside for the other 2 days.  I get a harder run that eases the transition a bit.

  • That is fantastic! Congratulations. :-)
  • Congrats!! The first 20 minute run is a huge hurdle and you made it through! You are going to rock that 5K.
  • Thank you all so much for the encouraging words.  You ladies rock!

For those of you doing week 4 right now, keep at it.  Like someone said to me earlier this week, trust the program, it is preparing you for this!  I was so nervous about this run all week, but around Thursday (after I did W5D2) I just started telling myself that I was ready for this and failure was not an option.  Once I got past about the halfway point today, I just told myself that stopping was going to hurt more than continuing to run.  Good luck!

  • That's great! Congrats!
