talk to me about wyndham points

DH and I are very close to pulling the trigger on purchasing 300K deeded points on ebay.  We vacation at least twice a year and are buying enough points to use in the future too (for our kids to have their own room when they are older).  Anyone have any information about wyndham points?  DH is doing extensive research on TUG right now, but I wanted to see what you ladies had to say.

  • I don't know but one think I have learned about timeshare is to buy what YOU need, there is no guarantee anyone else will want to vacation later on.  I am assuming you mean when your kids are old enough to have their own entrance without an adult present, so 18?  If so, that is many years from now and they might choose not to vacation with you (my Mom has this issue with her timeshare, my brother's wife has a ridiculous amount of reasons why she cannot use my Mom's timeshare even for free.)  So buy enough to get yourself 2 bed-room units for the time you will need it.  I hope this did not sound bitchy, I am not trying to be at all but I seriously think you could waste money if you assume your kids will want them when they are adults, even if it turns out they do.  Hell, I wish I could sell my own timeshares so we could vacation wherever we wanted.

No, not so we can give it to our kids,  but enough room for us to take 2 kids with us in the future.  With points, you can travel where you want for the most part.  Do you own a fixed week?

  • We own Marriott, we own 2 weeks in Aruba but can deposit through Interval week for week, we can exchange one week for Marriott rewards points or we can exchange through Marriott using points to get any of the Marritt Vacation Clubs using points. If we vacation club points we get a set amount yearly per week owned and they have a great exchange value.

My biggest complaint is that our home resort is nicer than the vast majority of anything in Interval so we hate to exchange that way.  We feel mostly limited to where Marriott Vacation Clubs are or we take the hotel reward points which is not as good of an exchange.

But buying on eBay is probably fairly reasonably priced.  Just make sure you have points for enough bedrooms bc it will be forever before you can let kids have their own entrance to a hotel room.
