I ran in shorts...

The other day I ran in running shorts, commando - no less, and I just don't see the appeal.  I didn't chafe, but my thighs ate my shorts.

What to do for summer, ladies?  I don't see shorts working out for me...

Re: I ran in shorts...

  • I wear these kind of shorts from Saucony. LOVE them! I have three pairs!

  • you have to experiment and see what shorts work for you.  im tall, and cant really wear anything shorter than a 5" inseam (some 4" are ok, but not most, and 3" forget it).  i also like compression shorts, similar to what joenali posted, but a little longer (i have UA 7" compression shorts i like).

  • I use these.  I won't wear regular shorts because I'm afraid of chafing and shorts always ride up between my thighs.  These are so comfy.

ETA:  These also have a zipper pocket that is big enough to hold my phone and a few other things and I don't notice it running.

  • I wore some like these when I needed compression

  • Try some different brands/styles/lengths to see what works best for you...I personally prefer shorts that hit no longer than midthigh (ex. Nike Tempo style), but I know plenty of people that prefer longer shorts, some that prefer compression style shorts like the ones Joenali posted, etc.  One of my friends has even found she prefers certain running skirts with short, compression style shorts under and a skirt that hits midthigh or a little longer.  So keep trying...shorts and skirts are a LIFESAVER when the temperatures start increasing! :)
  • Try different ones for sure. During the summer, short, breezy shorts are all I can tolerate, when even compression shorts seem too hot. I think it was sort of an acquired love- I felt really exposed at first, now I love them. I love my LLL tempo shorts, and I have a few pairs from here and there, plus a few running skirts with compression shorts underneath and it's really about finding a style you like. Go to a place like Ross or TJ Maxx and you can actually find quite a few different ones (granted, usually in horrible colors) for under $10.

I wear those same ones and LOVE them.  They're compression, so they don't ride up.

Yup. I have me some thigh muscles so they rub together which not only causes chafing but causes shorts to bunch up into the crotch. I prefer compression capris because my thighs can rub all they want where they want and I'm comfortable and they stay in place.

I have huge thighs and these shorts stay in place, even in the shorter length.  I have 5 & 7 inch inseam ones (I think that's what they are.)  I just can't do capris here in the summer.
