I don't know why this makes me so excited, but whatever; I'll take it!
I started running, oh, about 4 years ago. When we moved to Seattle I started actually reading about it and trying to do it right - adopted some methods from Galloway and started training for short races. A 10K here and there, a half marathon, always aiming for around a 10 min mile pace. I finally got pregnant (had taken about 4 years) and so the running was cut back. Stared back up last year, then got diagnosed with cancer. I trained throughout chemo and I really credit it with keeping me sane and healthy and weathering treatment. I ran three 10Ks during treatment and ran a half (slowly) 3 weeks after my 12th and final chemo round. I'd rip off a few 9+ min miles, but was stuck at the 10 min mile mark for so long - probably the chemo!
Now that I'm healthy (had my 3 month follow up on Tuesday and am still cancer-free!) I am still running - and now, really seeing improvement. I am running another 10K next Sunday, and today, had intended to do an LSD - maybe 7-8 miles or so. But it was rainy, then snowy, and cold and gross and I wasn't feeling it. So when I finally got DS down for a nap and the sun peaked through, I went out for a quick 5 miles since I couldn't risk a longer run and didn't want to anyway.
I finished in 43:23 - not nearly as fast as some of you but super for me! My best 10K time was 58:30, a 9:25 pace. I am thinking I might be able to crush my previous PR next weekend, assuming the hills don't kill me ![]()
Anyway, it was a total surprise and I think that's what makes me so happy. I just felt... good. And it's made me rethink signing up for another half - I'm really enjoying this distance and may just make 2012 the year of the 10K.
Thanks for reading!

Re: non-LSD, non-race AW :)
Naturally - it's for colon cancer! I had debated doing the half but a friend warned me off since she said when she did it, the canted roads drove her nuts. Plus I was too lazy to train
I'm hopeful that the rolling hills will make it fun and interesting - we'll see!
I am a runner, knitter, scientist, DE-IVF veteran, and stage III colon cancer survivor.
Yes,I'm smiling...I'm a marathoner!
