OMG, you guys. WORST 10K EVER.

Also my first.

Not sure if it's this unseasonably hot everywhere right now, but in WI it certainly is. The average at this time of year would be maybe 45? or so. This morning for my 10k it was somewhere close to 80?, HUMID and full sun for basically the entire course.

And they still had the water stations spaced as though it was normal weather, so the first one wasn't until like mile 3. I was so dehydrated afterwards that even with taking 3 cups of water at the race, a 20 oz lemonade on the way home, another 12 oz glass of water when I got home and then ANOTHER huge lemonade about hour later, I still didn't have to pee until more than 3 hours after the race.

It was just awful. I did a 5 miler at Thanksgiving and my average pace today was almost 2 full minutes slower, FOR REAL.

Based on my regular runs, I was expecting to finish in about 1:06:xx. My time according to my Garmin was 1:18:xx.

I guess the bright side is that my next one can't possibly be worse. lol

  • It may not have been ideal, but you did it. Now you deserve some green beer

  • I did finish, and I wasn't last.

It's hard not to be disappointed, though.

very, very true.  But heat is just something you really can't screw with in a race, it's unbelievable how much it takes out of you.

glad you finished though and survived!

  • Aw, so sorry it was awful!! :(. Congrats on finishing!  Just think, you will crush it on your next 10k! ;)
  • Yuck. Not much you can do about the weather though. That would be miserable for me anytime and is totally unexpected in March!
  • I hear ya!!  I am in MN and my long run was brutal today!  I was not ready for the humidity!

  • Heat really takes it out of you!  Almost 80 is crazy when you haven't been training in that weather.  Glad you finished and now you can find another 10k to crush :)  FWIW, my first (and only) 10k SUCKED, so I sympathize.
  • Yikes, I'm sorry, that sucks!

Yes, the heat is a run killer for sure.  I never expect any PRs when it's hot out, my body just doesn't  respond well to that.

At least you finished, and you know you can definitely get a better time next time!

  • That does suck, I'm sorry the weather didn't cooperate. It's been like that in Cincinnati, too - I ran a half this morning and it was in the upper 70s, sunny, and humid. I totally feel your pain.
