The thing that has been taking up ALL of my time for the past 4+ months is over! I successfully defended my doctorate 2 days ago. ![]()
And I now have a ton of time to put towards H&F. I figured I could either use the time for nothing at all, find a new hobby, or get back on track with running etc. I'd rather work on my H&F goals than anything else.
So, what to do? If you had hours each day for fitness and healthy eating etc, what would you do with yourself? how would you use the time?
Is there a specific training program you would work through? a particular approach to eating/cooking/food prep? Training for a race? Marathon or half? or Tri?
Please give me ideas!
Oh, and I still run occasionally (nowhere near the 15-20 a week I was doing in the fall), so I can go out and run for 30-40 minutes no problem. I'm not starting from scratch, but I am going from no plan at all to having structure and opportunity to do something long-term.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Re: So I now have literally hours each day to put towards H&F...
How exciting, congrats!
If it were me, I would pick a challenging race and train for it. Or maybe take up an additional h&f activity. If you normally run, keep doing that but add swimming, yoga, biking, dance (whatever you've always wanted to try) to the mix as well.

Maybe you could find a 10K or HM to train for? Maybe try a triathlon, cycling, spinning, Zumba, or something new to cross train?

Congratulations! I'm working on my masters thesis right now and it has given me a huge amount of respect for anyone who can tackle a doctoral dissertation. That's a HUGE accomplishment!
It's hard to suggest anything specific based on what you have said and without knowing you, but I'd say pick a goal that seems fun and challenging and go for it!
