Anyone ever been? Recommendations?

Re: Cartagena, Colombia?

  • I have no advice since I've never been, but some friends of mine were there recently and loved it. They spent a lot of time on the beach and going on hikes in the jungle.

  • Well, one of my friend's is from Colombia and was with her family and loved it.

H does have some friends that went there a few months ago and they loved it as well.  They stayed at a boutique hotel there and loved it.  Sadly, I can't remember the name but if I do, I will update.  Sorry this post wasn't much help.  Just wanted to say that I've always wanted to go there! Enjoy!

ETA: I *think* this was the place.

  • We stayed at the Hotel Tres Banderas and loved it - it was a great location and reasonably priced ($80 a night I think) and had AC. They also own a place on an island off the coast so we took a 15 minute boat ride and spent the day at the beach and pool there. The ride, 4 hours there plus lunch and some beers was $40 for the two of us.

We spent a lot of time just wandering around. We explored the old city walls, took a carriage ride around the city, checked out the beach, did some shopping. We had great food there - the pan de queso (hot cheesy bread) from a little shop of the same name was amazing. As was this one drink (condensed milk, bailey's, and I think mint?) from the Hotel Santa Clara's beautiful bar. We were only there for 3 days so we didn't do much else other than just relaxing.

    Thanks everyone!

You felt totally safe? We are debating whether to go and if we go whether to bring our kids.

  • Totally safe. There were a few areas in Medellin that we thought were a little sketchy, but we had no issues and felt totally at ease in Cartagena.
  • I had visited Cartagena it is a beautiful place to travel around the places i like there the most are Centro Amurallado, Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, Rosario Islands, Bocagrande and El Laguito.
