Home Gym?

Who's got one?  What do you have?  What do you want?  What did you think you needed, but ended up not needing?

Or, if you don't have one, what would be the "must haves" you'd need to drop your gym membership and work out at home (besides the obvious "place to put the stuff")?

Re: Home Gym?

  • I just moved and have one. It's pretty basic so far--treadmill, incline/flat bench, free weights, yoga mats, step. We are adding a tv/dvd player in the next couple of weeks, and I'd like to put a small ballet bar in it (I do Physique 57 a lot). I'd also like to add some barbells and plates.

  • To quit my box I would want a kettlebell set, barbell & bumper set, rack for shoulder stuff, pull up bar, medicine ball set, box jump& rower. So basically 1 of most the things in our box.

  • I have invested in a few beachbody programs. I fell in love with turbojam, turbofire and chalean extreme. With them I just reached a milestone of 70 ponds lost. I have an eliptical, treadmill and weights but found that finding a fitness program I love made all the difference in the world. Otherwise those things will just collect dust.

  • We have a home gym, but we did it knowing that I would still have a gym membership. I need to go somewhere, but my husband wanted one in the house. Right now, we have dumbbells, a bench, exercise ball, yoga mat, and treadmill. There's a TV mounted in the corner which I always have on when I'm using the treadmill. We are going to get an elliptical so that DH and I can each have a machine and work out together. I also plan to purchase a pilates ring, because I know I use it.

  • We have a treadmill, exercise bike, adjustable dumbbell weights to 50lbs, kettlebells (15, 30, 45), bands, pull up bar, med balls, exercise ball, and a step box. We also have p90x, p90x2, and a few other DVDs. We use it all! Dh wants push up bars, and better bands, but we are pretty set. I don't miss the gym other than the option of daycare, which would be nice.

  • Cinco, how do you like p90x and p90x2? I just got p90x and might do that next after TurboFire. Just like to hear peoples opinions since I just became a beachbody coach.

  • DH loves to work out, so we built a home gym when we moved into this house.  We have a treadmill, an elliptical, a rowing machine, a cable cross machine, a punching bag, and every free weight imaginable (it seems).  He is now going to build a cross-fit gym in our garage so there is a ton of other stuff coming.  I kept my 24 membership for the classes, but I only pay $99/year.

  • We have a treadmill, recumbent bike, spin bike, bench, 300 lb weight set, 2 sets of Powerblocks (adjustable dumbbells) 5-50 lbs and 55-115 lbs, kettlebells 5-20 lbs and 2 each 12-35 kg (I think), pull up bar, heavy bag, bands, push up handles, stability balls and weighted balls ( forget the exact name). We have p90x and p90x2, Skogg DVDs and Live Exercise (for Bodylastics bands). TV is mounted on the wall, we have the Nike flooring tiles as well. 90+% of this is for DH, who retained his work gym membership. We also belong to a rock climbing gym.

  • Ours is minimal since we mostly do P90X, yoga and cardio (spinning or Insanity) at home. If I want to do heavier lifting I go to the gym. We just don't have the space for a bench, olympic bar, weights, etc. I find the home gym is more versatile than I thought.

    We have:

    fitness/stability balls

    set of bands

    light dumbells (3# through 15#)

    pull up bar

    push up bar/handles

    yoga mats, straps & blocks

    medicine balls

indoor cycling bike (aka "spin" bike)

An old computer monitor is on the wall w/ a DVD players and speakers attached. For videos we have a variety of yoga (Rodney Yee, mostly), P90X, P90X2, Insanity and for cycling we have some of the Sufferfest series.

  • We have a bunch of dumbells, 2 barbells, a squat rack with a pulley system for lat pulldowns, weights for the barbells and pulldowns, a bench, yoga mats, a dip station, and a back extension bench.  We also have a treadmill, but neither of us ever use it.
  • We have one but we're still working on it.

Right now we have an elliptical (blegh), weight bench, full dumbbell set and barbell set, stability ball, TRX straps, kettlebell set (I got it for xmas!), weighted jumprope and a resistance band.

What I would LOVE and think we might get after my husband's deployment is a power rack, bumper set, a curved treadmill, and we're building a box jump and dip station.
