oh DH

This will probably be a bit of a vent, and I apologize in advance, but if I don't get it out I will probably get mad at DH, and I don't think our first impression to our new neighbors should be us yelling...haha

We are renovating our upstairs bathroom right now, and when I say "we" I should say DH. He has done a fantastic job, and he did our other bathroom two years ago also. He is starting to get frustrated because it's been a lengthy process (we gutted the whole thing and basically started from scratch) and he wants to be done. I would like to be done too, I understand this, I would love to have my second bathroom back and not have dust and debris carried all over my house. But now is not the time to be cutting corners--we are now on painting and adding the actual touches that will make it look like a room--paint, wainscoting, flooring, etc. I'm sorry that I would like the ceiling paint to ONLY be used on the ceiling, that's what it's for, and I'm sorry that I don't want the same roller that was used on the ceiling to then be used on the paint for the wainscoting. And when I am in there because you asked me to come look at something and I see a fairly large drip of paint on the second coat that you just did, I am going to say something, especially since it was in a pretty obvious spot.

Like I said, he has done a great job and I have tried to make sure that I tell him that, but of course my eye goes to the things that look "off". I probably have too high expectations...but I just want it to look good!

Ok vent over. If you read the whole thing, thank you. And sorry for filling the board with a vent. I promise I'm done!

Re: oh DH

  • I can understand the vent. I look at it this way, once the project is done... usually everything remains as it is... it takes a lot more effort to go back and fix it later than to do it right. That being said, maybe you guys need a break? Maybe take a whole weekend day off and just get out of the house, away from the project, not talking about it, etc... just have fun and forget it, lol! Maybe then look at pictures of remodeled bathrooms that inspired you guys to begin with. Sounds like you're both tired and weary... and I think you're right in making sure how good it looks. A lot of husbands are not talented in that area and can't do that work. Mine sure wasn't... so the praise is definitely something that I'm sure he appreciates hearing from you.

Hang in there! This too shall pass!

  • I totally agree with Crystal. It seems like at this point a break is necessary. I get how you feel though- we renovated our entire house while I was pregnant. MH did a lot of the work and there were many times both of us got frustrated. The best advice we were given was to walk away and take a break. Don't talk about the renovations- just relax and do something unrelated to the project. You want it to be perfect and that's understandable. Good luck!

  • I can totally see where you're coming from. J doesn't do a whole lot of renovations by himself-we usually have our friends come over and help, but a few months ago we painted our bedroom. He wanted to leave the closet the way it was and not paint the inside because he didn't want to have to take the doors off. Confused

Renovations are a PITA but totally worth it in the end. Just take a break if you see yourself getting frustrated...and keep your eyes on the prize--it will be so worth it when it's done!

  • Thanks ladies!

It actually did blow over rather quickly. I basically just closed the door up there and walked away, came downstairs and vented to you all, and just went on with my own stuff, and everything turned out fine. It always gets stressful for us when we can see the end in sight to our projects, but we will get there!

Kari- what you said about the closet doors is 100% something my J would do!
