Hubs has either the strep or something flu like (more than just the dreaded man cold) so we weren't sure if he was going to be able to take care of the girls for me to go race or not. Thankfully, when I woke up, his fever had dropped below 100* so I left him in charge of the littles while I went to the race by myself.
This was my first time to ever run without my girls there and my first time since 2004 without my husband. I was very sad to leave them, but enjoyed the 40 minute drive with the sunroof open singing at the top of my lungs too.
I did the Seabrook Lucky Trails half and had a lot of fun. I don't think I'll do the race again, but I'm glad I did it once and if you live in the Houston area, it's a race to put on your calendar.
It's not exactly a real cross country trail race, but it is run mostly on crushed granite and kind of gravel surfaces, so it's a nice change from asphalt or concrete.
I didn't know what to expect from the course and the weather (it's heating up here) so my A goal was to finish under 2:20, B goal was to finish under 2:30 and C goal was to finish without walking.
I finished in 2:25:13 and was very pleased with that. That put me 26 out of 51 finishers in my age group, so I was right in the middle.
The course was really unique and very pretty, and it's worth running just for the scenery (not something you really hear about races around here.)
The worst part of the course was the trail though. It's narrow, like, barely two people wide narrow, and most of the race was with two way traffic on it. And since the course is two loops, you can imagine the congestion that resulted. My miles were either really slow or really fast. Once you started running with a group, it was hard to get away from them, very similar to running an Indian line drill (or whatever name you know those dang things by.)
This race had the best water stops in the world though, the volunteers never lost an ounce of excitement and they all made sure to read your name on your bib and cheer you on by name. My favorite was the one sponsored by the local Harley Davidson store.
I walked briefly after a water stop around mile 10 to call home to my husband, lol. I was pretty bored at that point and missed girls, so they gave me some support over the phone.
All in all, it was a race worth doing at least once and I'm glad I put on my big girl panties and went by myself. Plus, having a guy in a full blown leprechaun costume calling you beautiful at mile 9 is never a bad way to spend St Paddy's day

Pretty nice bling (the shamrock is all glittery) and heavy as heck!

All done!
PS - Fritos may be the best post race food in the world.

Oh, I'm sorry we missed each other! I had a conversation with about three of you, LOL!
The passing was really hard because people were running two and three abreast, even after seeing how hard it was to pass people. That irritated me.
But yeah, don't know if I'll do it again, but it was fun to do it at least once.
And big congrats on finishing your first half!
