How did it go? I can't believe how cold it was! It felt like someone turned on the air conditioning at the start! And it was so humid! Neither of which I was really ready for, oops!
It was a great race though, I loved the course. The park was a little challenging for me, but I kept pace through the hills.
The view down 7th Ave when you came out of the park was amazing. And I made sure to take it all in as we ran through Times Square.
I am happy to say that I PR'd! I would have been even faster but I had to make a pit stop at the porta potties. Grr! 2:31:53 for me. I still shaved almost 1:30 off my previous best.
Hope you had a great race, too!

Good job! It was weird - when I got out of the car, it didnt' feel that cold, so I kept my sweatshirt on that I was prepared to leave behind in the corrals but left my pants in the car. By the time I went to the bathroom and got in the corral, the wind must have picked up because I got COLD. Once we started moving though (took my corral almost 25 minutes to start), the weather was perfect for me.
I didn't think the first hill was bad, it was just starting to get annoying when it was over, but man Harlem Hill was big and went on forever. And that little series of hills before the 6 mile mark was a bit of a drain too, but the downhills in the park were glorious.
7th Ave was amazing to run down. Mile 7 was my fastest mile I think because of how exciting it was! Did you notice how sticky the road was by the Gu station? I was laughing at the sound everyone's shoes were making.
The darn West Side Highway seemed to go on forever and my ankle is paying for running on all the concrete today - it's super sore. I also didn't realize how long the tunnel was, but man was I glad to get out of there.
I PR'd in 2:04 which I was super excited about. The crowd support was amazing and really helped carry me through the last few miles when I really just wanted to stop and walk. I thought it was really well run by NYRR as well. I can't believe they want to expand it to 50k runners, but I hope I get to do it again next year.
Congrats! Sounds like you had a great race, too!
I totally agree with you on the hill in Harlem. Thankfully I heard someone behind me say that it was the worst of them. That was the boost I needed to power through. I agree that the downhills were great!
I did laugh at the sticky gu covered road. It lasted for a while even to the u-turn on to the West Side Highway.
I had never considered how strange it would feel to run that long on the concrete. I thought I would pay for it today, but it's not so bad. Hope your ankle gets better!
The tunnel was long! I thought it was just me. I am glad it wasn't sunnier out otherwise I would have felt like a mole.
I didn't realize they want to expand it out to 50k! Wow! It was well run, but that's crazy! I wasn't too crazy about the tshirt, but the medal is pretty nice. I wish they had more choices for the "official" gear, I wanted to buy something but didn't see anything I liked. Oh well, I'll put the money saved towards another race fee
Thanks, luckily my ankle doesn't hurt to walk on too much today, it's just sore if I touch it. Hopefully that's not worse?
I didn't care much for the stuff at the expo either - I did buy a shirt, the blue one with the course map on the back, but I don't really love it. I thought there would be more vendors there too. And yeah the tech shirt they gave out is pretty ugly. And the sleeves are oddly long. Oh well.
Did you have issues with the port-a-potties by your corral? I used one without much of a line before getting into the corral, but I wanted to go again real quick but then realized the line wrapped around like 4 times. Umm, no.
We recorded the race on tv yesterday morning, so I watched it when I got home and heard the race director say they hope to expand to 50k eventually. The corrals will go all the way up to Harlem if they do that!
Yeah the lines for the porta potties were out of control! I had used them once already since we got there super early. But as the corrals started to move up (which was almost an hour later!) I thought I had to go again, but the lines were long. I decided to skip and ended up stopping around mile 6ish I guess.
I kept seeing people with these really comfortable looking hoodies that said NYC Half 12 on them. But I didn't see them at the expo. I didn't venture down to the race festival to see if they had them there.
Glad to hear that you had a great race! Good luck with the rest of the spring racing season!
