Teaching a young child to crochet or knit

I lurk here quite a bit, but don't post much. I've been crocheting since elementary school and have been trying to start knitting in the past few months. I also sew a bit here and there, but am no great shakes.

DDs are 3.5 and one of my girls is VERY interested in learning to crochet. She frequently grabs out my needles and a ball of yarn and says she's crocheting as she threads the needle back and forth through the ball. :)

I noticed on here that one of the posters mentioned KNITTING since 3 or 4. I had no idea that a kid this young can actually crochet or knit?!?! So ... how do you teach somebody so young? Or does anybody have ideas for other crafts that she'd be able to feel proud of?

Thanks!
