Help me plan a trip

H and I have been talking about a weekend away before the baby comes.  Where should we go?  It will be a pretty short trip (either just a weekend, or maybe 3 days), and it needs to be driving distance.  Right now our top choices are Nashville, Charleston or Savannah.  We've been to Savannah before, but not to the other two places.

Any suggestions about any of these places?  Any ideas for other places that we could investigate?

  • I have never spent any time in any of these places but yes, go, do this. And pamper yourself, get massages, stay someplace ritzy, enjoy enjoy enjoy!
  • You should go to Asheville.  I've never been but I've heard it's gorgeous.

  • My mom really likes Charleston, which makes me think that you should maybe not go there.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

  • Asheville IS gorgeous, but we were just there in the fall for our anniversary, so I feel like we should go somewhere new.

  • I've heard really great things about Charleston. I've been to Savannah once and wasn't too impressed, truthfully. Depending when you go, maybe look at the Outer Banks (NC)?

  • Charleston is gorgeous!! It's small, easy to walk around. I've only been there once, but I remember it's a little sketchy outside of the cute little downtown area.

The Outer Banks are my jam, but that's a really long haul to get out there. It would take us 4 hours from Raleigh. Wilmington is a lot more accessible and more quaint, especially if it's just fora weekend.

Nashville is fun, ton of restaurants and entertainment.

Ive never been to Savannah, but it's on my bucket list. I need to see those trees!

  • Funny, I'm going to Nashville, Asheville, and Charleston next week, on our big southern tour.  Get back on 365 and check out the pictures when I get back, maybe that will help you decide.
  • Hands down I would choose Charleston,  there is so much to do in the historic district, as well as going out to the plantations, the aquarium, the ferry to Ft. Sumpter.   When we go we either stay in the historic district or at at The Inn at Middleton Place.  The inn is probably about 20 minutes from downtown though so it depends on what you really want to do.

We went to Savannah and I liked it but not more than Charleston. I feel that there is more to see in Charleston.    We were only in Nashville for one day/night and I felt like that was plenty of time to see everything I wanted to.
