S/O - Coach takes a new direction

Just read an interesting article on Refinery29 about Coach, I can only hope it is true.

The End of the Monogram? Coach debuts New Look, New Strategy, New Collection

Re: S/O - Coach takes a new direction

  • It makes sense, although they obviously have quite a large audience who likes the monogram stuff -- I can't see them doing away with it entirely. But their recent heritage collection was definitely a step in the right direction.

Makes sense. Burberry did the same after the brand was getting a "chav" reputation.

  • I am SO SAD that the Essex Girl, Louise, stormed off of ANTM already.

Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
  • I bought my first Coach bag earlier this year, in part, because it was logo free. It had a little tassel with a logo, but that was removable, leaving me with a simple well made black leather bag, which was all I wanted (and until then, rather hard to find).

    This is the bag:

I like the look of the bags in the link. I'll definitely be checking out Coach's bags more often.

  • I'll be interested to see how it goes.  I think the higher price point is a bad idea -- brand-conscious people who have $1000 to spend on a bag aren't generally going to want to spend $1000 to share a label with all the teens who bought wristlets at outlets  for $20-$40.  (Also, didn't Coach try to reinvent itself with more expensive bags in the last season or so?   And wasn't Poppy a recent attempt to reinvent themselves?)

I think if they want to reinvent themselves and reinvigorate the brand, they should stop emphasizing the outlets.

  • I will not spend $1,000 on a Coach bag.  There are so many other truly beautiful bags at that price point or a bit more that I can't even imagine spending that on the bags pictured.
  • I love that Legacy Tote, but you will not see me spending that much on a Coach bag. If I had $1000+ to spend on a bag, I would get the Mulberry bag that I am lusting after. I have several nice, non-monogrammed, leather bags from Coach that I LOVE, but they did NOT cost me $1000!

    I definitely agree.
