::peeks up from under pile of potato chip bags:: Hello there, H&F.

Hi, my name is bridey, and I am a total H&F flunkie.

I have put back on almost all of the 40 pounds that I lost a few years ago.  I have been really down about myself lately yet I've continued to eat like crap and haven't been motivated enough to actually change anything.

I was on vacation last week, so I was NOT starting any new eating plan then.  I did walk a TON in the D.C. heat, but I'm pretty sure I ate (OK, let's be honest, drank) back everything I walked.

But I'm starting over today.  Eggs for breakfast.  Veggies & hummus for snack.  Salad for lunch.  Yogurt for snack.  Beef + veggies + cornbread for dinner.  Boooring.  But I gotta do it, right?  And NO SODA.  Since I discovered I can't tolerate fake sugar, I've been drinking way too much sugary soda.

I'm going to restart couch to 5k for the umpteenth time tomorrow.  Yay?

Sigh.

  • Hi Bridey! I'm no H&F expect. In fact, I'm pretty new to posting in general. I just wanted to wish you luck Smile

I recently gave up soda, and I found that regular soda water (just fizzy water) helped me quite a bit. Plus, the bubbles make me feel a little full sometimes when I'm feeling extra snacky!

Your comment about the couch to 5K makes me wonder if maybe there's an activity you might enjoy more? A couple of summers ago I took an adult beginners tennis course through the local park district that was a lot of fun. There are plenty of sports out there if you don't love to run.

  • Yay!  You've got to start somewhere, and more often than not that's half the battle.
  • Welcome back! I am a reformed (I hope) flunkie myself. After losing 101lbs I managed to gain back 36lbs due to life circumstances and me eating my way through some tough times. I'm back on plan and so far have lost 7 of the lbs that I put back on. The important part is not that you strayed, the important part that you REALIZE that you strayed and are making the right decisions to get back on track. GL!

I drink club soda like it's going out of style (and it has to be club soda, not seltzer - the sodium content is necessary to make it taste good), but it's no replacement.  People claim that you get used to not having soda, and PEOPLE LIE!

I like running; I ran a lot in 2010-2011.  I just haven't been motivated to do ANYTHING.  The only thing I enjoy more than running is swimming, but a) running is more efficient for me, and b) swimming requires paying to join a gym.

Well it sounds like you know what you like and what works for you, so it's good that you're getting started again Smile Hopefully the spring weather will help motivate you to run. I always seem to need the least amount of convincing to lace up my running shoes when it starts getting warmer outside!

Nope, LaCroix sucks.  It would be better if it had salt.  Club soda is the only thing that even comes close.  Salt is the key to happiness.  We did make a GIANT thing of iced tea at home, so that helps.  Also, being back to good coffee will help.  Our hotel had super shitty coffee on vacation.  I was dying.

Update: I decided to give myself one week to get my eating back in line and start couch to 5k again next week.  I'm doing the whole "baby steps" thing.

Can you sign up for a race. It's so much easier for me to get out the door when I have a goal other than "run for a workout."

Do you have a community pool? I like swimming but don't go often enough to jusify a membership. I've found pools with punch cards that let you go for $3-5 a use.
