Moving to MN?

So DH got offered a job in MN today. It was from a previous boss and he basically said DH could have whatever job he wanted. He is an actuary if you dont remember. Anyway, Rich said he really wanted to think about it. I am freaking out on the inside even though it is only a possibility at this point. I have never lived anywhere but CT and in the same town I live in now. All my family is here and I have a great group of mommy friends. And MN? Colder! I can see some positives and it would definitly be an adventure... ok no real point to this post but I needed to vent a bit since Rich wont be home from work until late to discuss.

Re: Moving to MN?

  • I don't really have any "advice".  Moving away from friends and family would definitely be a difficult thing to do.  But if it was for a great job opportunity and you liked the area you were moving to it could be an adventure.

We will never move somewhere colder - I don't think that is even possible :)

  • My advice is to be open to it! We both agreed that we would consider moving when the kids are younger, rather than older.

Granted, when we first moved, we moved 2 hours away and it sucked at first. But now I love it here. But we are always looking at more opportunities. :) Who knows, it could be fun!

  • I can tell you all about the pros and cons, IMO, in moving away from family when you have young kids-but I don't want to dole out unsolicited advice. If you have questions please feel free to ask away-here or on FB, I will try to answer them as best I can with the move stuff starting up.

  • I don't really have any advice, but thought I would share that one of my friends moved her family to Minneapolis for a year long assignment.  They loved it so much, they decided to move there permanently!

  • Wow! Moving away like from my family is something I don't think I could do. M & I have talked about it because he would have better job opportunities elsewhere, but I just couldn't do it.

But if you are even the least bit open to it, how awesome for your H! Good luck discussing it :) Sounds like quite a decision!

  • I can tell you all about moving all over ;) It's definitely got its pros and cons, but each move and each new place is a new experience and a new adventure, though the constant instability kinda gets old after a while. I do miss our families, and worry how we'll do now with the baby and being so far from everyone, but alas, it's just another adventure and exercise in independence and self reliance. Hopefully one day we'll be back near family again. For a really great job opportunity, it may be worthwhile to consider it. You never know, you may end up loving it.

  • MN is great Smile It really isn't that much colder. Well at least I don't think haha. What part of the state is the job offer in? If you have any questions pm me. I lived in the Minneapolis area for 5 years and now am back in northern MN.

  • Have you ever been there? Do you like it? I only have been there once... In the summer... It was really really nice and the people are nice. I have moved far from home (being single no less) but I think itd be a lot easier with a DH. Still if its a phenomenal job improvement... Might be worth an adventure! :)
