and it went just as I suspected it would. It's ok, though. Gives me a post-pregnancy goal.
Thank you for your email and congratulations on the arrival of your little one.
As of our 2011 Boston Marathon registration the BAA no longer offers deferments for any reason.
Each year, many entrants of the Boston Marathon become unable to participate on race day for various and valid reasons. Due to the high demand for participation in our race, the BAA realized that we could no longer reserve spaces in future events for those who became unable to run. For the past two years, therefore, we have asked registrants to acknowledge their understanding of the no-deferment policy as part of our registration process, which we see you have done.
If you would like a friend to pick up your race packet you simply need to sign your number pick up card, enter your friends name and then have them visit us at the solution center of the runners expo with their photo ID.
We wish you good health and the best of luck in your future running endeavors.
Sincerely,
BAA Registration Office

That's a bummer.
The good news is that you'll be even better after the baby comes and will qualify easy peasy.

Aw, I'm sorry Daisy! They used to do deferments so it kind of sucks they stopped. They wouldn't lose money on them since you just pay twice (like NYCM).
No matter though, you'll come back stronger and requalify. Then you can take the whole family to Boston!

Thanks ladies! The hardest part of this all is not being able to be there with my dad. But he met an really nice guy early summer of last year who is now a great friend of ours. He is also running Boston so they have trained together and will run together.
I know I won't BQ for 2013, so my goal is to BQ this fall or next spring for 2014. I am going to see if my BQ time if good for Gansett and if so, try to run that in 2013.

I'm sorry that really sucks.
Not to pry, but is there a specific reason your doctor won't let you fly? My doctor said it would fine around 35 weeks. Most airlines will let you fly up to 36 weeks.

There is more than just the pregnancy stopping me from going. We've had a lot going on at our home (remodeling) that has take up a lot of our money. So not only would it be hard to go and have to walk most of the marathon, but the trip itself is very expensive. Trust me, it took everything I had to come to the conclusion. I really wish I could go. But I guess this is just not my year.
However I can run Gansett in 2013 w/ my current BQ time. So I may just do that!

Sorry to hear you aren't able to run it this year. I have no doubts you will qualify again! I am getting through not being able to run by telling myself I will be faster when I come back. So many Mom's get faster! For one, you have been still running and carrying all that extra blood is increasing your Vo2. I don't have any scientific study to back it up, but that's what I am sticking with
Awesome you can run Gansett, too!

We all know you'll be back and even better than before though. Watch out Boston 2014, Steph is coming.
Your BQ time from 2011 will probably still be good for 2013. Unless it changes and unless Gansett gets moved to the fall (possibility, but I think it's unlikely), the qualifying times are good for 2 years before the Gansett race. I would bet the GQ standards will to drop by 5 minutes for 2013. The race crew will decide that after this year's race.

Got this email from the Gansett race director!
Stephanie,
We have a two-year qualifying window. So a May 2011 qualifier will still work for 2013 Gansett.
I hope that helps.
