Has anyone read the Lord of the Rings?

I'll probably post and run (will check back in tomorrow of course), but has anyone read the Lord of the Rings? Is it a good series? I haven't seen the movies or anything (that little creepy guy skeeves me out), but I just realized I haven't read the books.

  • I tried.... just couldn't finish the first one.

Ditto. Tolkein was a linguist and decided that he needed to create a new language for the books. It just made it incredibly difficult for me to read. I know many others who adore the books, they just weren't for me.

  • Oh, that sounds incredibly confusing. I'll pass for now. Thanks, girls!

  • Those books where like a right of passage in my family and I just couldn't read them. My mom even named one of our horses after a character in the book and I still couldn't get into them.
