Lots of walking: Sam Edelman Gigi vs. Sperry's?

We will going to Chicago in a few weeks, and if the weather is warm, I?d love to wear my SE Gigi sandals I just got from Piperlime. I?ve never worn them (they?re on backorder until tomorrow). Will the Gigi sandal be able to withstand lots of walking? I only ask b/c the leather is thin (not thick straps) and wasn?t sure how much walking it can withstand. If it?s warm outside, I?d love to wear sandals (and not closed-toe shoes like Sperry?s!)

Re: Lots of walking: Sam Edelman Gigi vs. Sperry's?

  • I have the Gigi sandal and love them. Personally, I needed to break them in just a little because the toe strap was a bit tight (plus it always takes a little getting used to be in sandals again vs. boots for me). But the foot bed is actually padded, so although it's thin, they do offer a *little* support. But if you wear them around the house first then you should be fine to walk around in them all day around the city.

  • I walk a good bit in my Sam Edelman Gigi's and they are pretty comfortable. The strap rubbed a bit when I first got them, but broken in pretty quickly.

P.S.  I LOVE your cooking blog -- I stumbled across it awhile back and credit it for getting me to cook.  Everything I've tried so far has turned out great!

  • It's not the straps on the Gigi's I'd be worried about but the thin sole. They are fine for walking around the mall or something, but if I am going to be sightseeing I may opt for something more comfortable (but still cute of course!).

    Aww gee thanks :)

  • Thanks for everyone's feedback....
  • I live in a city and walk a lot in both (although I have insoles inserted on my Gigis).  I have no clear winner -- I wear my topsiders when it is springy and Gigis when it is summery.

I live in NY rather than Chicago, but I wouldn't wear my Gigis in a few weeks -- they're more for when it is affirmatively summer.  I'd imagine Chicago is along the same lines seasons-wise.

  • Have you tried Gigi's on in person before?  I ordered them last year and ended up returning because the strap btwn the toes was so uncomfortable.  I know a lot of other reviewers have said the same thing.

When are you coming to Chicago?  With the recent weird weather, you probably will be able to wear sandals, but you never know.

  • I love my Gigi's. I was worried last year after the reviews but they ended up being so comfortable, my most comfortable sandals. I actually bought another pair this year.  I absolutely hate boat shoes not on a boat but with that said, if you want walking shoes, I would imagine the boat shoes would be more comfortable in the long run.
