Severe acid reflux- help

I recently went to the doctor and he did tests and the results were that I had moderate to severe acid reflux. Does anybody have acid reflux too. What diet do you follow?? Anything that has helped you? Have you seen that by changing your diet it has helped with the acid reflux?

  • I was diagnosed with AR when I was 6 months old and experienced symptoms through my childhood and teens. I changed my diet in college and completely gave up soda. I also try to limit my trigger foods (for me, tomato based sauces, spicy foods, orange juice,etc.) and it's helped tremendously. I finally came off Prevacid/Nexium/every.other.medicine for reflux a couple years ago and I feel great. For me, changing my diet made a big difference. GL.
  • I have acid reflux as well. It has been hard to pinpoint, but I find eating healthier has really helped. There is no certain food to avoid. AR is different for each person. Having a food diary can help so you can more easily pinpoint the foods that are triggers for you. It's not bad to live with if you can manage it. GL!

  • I was Dx w/ Acid Reflux when I was pregnant with my daughter, so 6 years ago. I was on Nexxium for years, but once I started Eating Clean, I was actually able to stop taking my medication all together. I find that eating on the lower end of fats and the higher end of fiber works the best, so I tend to lean more towards a Vegetarian-style diet. I still eat meat, but it's smaller portions and less frequent.

  • Defiantly you should be following close to a vegetarian diet.  Animal proteins and fats induce reflux.

    Someone mentioned a food diary above to pinpoint trigger foods, I would say that is where you should start, along with limiting dairy/meat.

    Fats give you reflux because they don't stay in your stomach as long as, say, fiber. So you have the same amount of acid for fats as for fiber, but the acid has nothing to do but bother you.

    My best advice is identifying trigger foods. Believe it or not, veggies, especially carrots, are a trigger food for me.  Seems weird, right? But I know someone else has posted the same thing.

    Eating better helps,mand exercising helps.  Having a good core helps with digestion. If you're feeling particularly bad, go for a walk. Not brisk, but not a stroll. It helps with digestion.

    I personally cannot go off meds. I've tried to, but I just get so miserable. I've tried so many things like different diets, but nothing was ever enough.
