Recommend favorite AI resort in Cancun

DH and I are thinking about going to Mexico at the end of May and are looking for suggestions on which all inclusive resort to stay at. TIA.

Re: Recommend favorite AI resort in Cancun

  • My favs are Secrets Maroma or Zoetry Paraiso. If you want something larger and glitzy, also check out the Iberostar Grand.

  • Jells, I like your travel style!  Would love to hear your thoughts on Zoetry Paraiso.  We stayed at Zoetry Agua in 2010 and weren't that impressed.

Here's what's on my list for a girls' trip this summer and a trip with H in December:

    Valentin Imperial Maya

    Excellence Playa Mujeres

    Secrets Maroma

    Live Aqua

    Le Blanc

The Royal Cancun (we stayed here once before and loved it)

    Zoetry Paraiso

    Royal Hideaway

  • The Royal Cancun. Our room was amazing! Review and pics in the link above my siggy pic.

  • There is a good deal on the royal on livingsocial right now. There is also a groupon for the royal solaris. We stayed at the grand park royal. More middle of the road but exceeded my expectations. I would only book a premier or royal tower room.
  • Secrets Maroma Beach
  • I've stayed at Valentin Imperial Maya, Excellence Playa Mujeres and The Royal Playa del Carmen.  Loved all of them but Excellence was my fav.

This! Here's a link to the deal: http://www.livingsocial.com/escapes/266612-all-inclusive-cancun-resort-suite?msdc_id=3-nyc-midtown

After getting that in my inbox this morning, I'm working to convince my H that we're in need of another vacation! I haven't been to the Royal, but have heard rave reviews online and from some friends who went there for their honeymoon. We did Excellence Playa Mujeres for our honeymoon and loved it.

The bolded are my two recs (although they're Riveria Maya, if it matters to you).  I haven't been to Zoetry Paraiso, but it's owned by the same company as Secrets and one "level" above Secrets resorts.  Based on my experience at S. Maroma, I'm sure it's great!

  • DH and I went to The Royal Cancun for our honeymoon and had a great time.  Resort is great, food was great!

My H and I  love the Royal Resorts in Cancun and Playa.  They are not AI but are so wonderful.  We are going back in May, staying at the Royal Sands for 2 weeks, and taking our 5 year old granddaughter for her first big trip.  It is going to be so fun.  Anyone have any recommendations on favorite family activiteies?

I actually never have tried an AI but we are planning to try one at some point in the future.  We never really have seen the point for a couple reasons:  1) We don't drink.  2)  We like to explore and usually spend a good portion of our time away from the resort and that means we would really be paying for meals twice.

  • We have stayed at Sun Palace several times and always had fabulous vacations there. Great beach, awesome ocean views and outstanding service. You can also visit their sister resorts in the area for additional activities and dining.
  • The Moon Palace is absolutly beautiful.  It's AI and a little away from the main strip of Cancun but close enough to take a bus into town if you want to shop or do other things.  They are owned by the Palace Resorts if you want to google it.

Just want to point out that The Royal Cancun and Royal Sands are 2 different resorts.  The Royal is a 5 diamond AI and adult-only.  The Royal Sands is not AI.  My sister actually just got back from a week there with her family and had a great time and said it's really nice, but was very family oriented with kids running around.

  • Not in Cancun, but south in Play Del Carmen... we stayed at Excellence Riviera Maya and loved it.  It was a great location for us because we wanted to do Xcaret, Tulum, Chichen Itza, and only went up to Cancun once.  We were unimpressed, but we aren't into the party or bar scene either.
