French book recommendations
I've got a friend coming to visit from Geneva and she's offered to bring me whatever I'd like. I want some more French books as I'm Almost out of new reading material. I've read Levy's Et si C'etait Vrai and Prochaine Fois. I really liked both of them. I'm just about to finish L'Africain by Le Cl?zio, which I am quite enjoying as well. I was thinking about asking for Poisson d'Or because I'm liking Le Cl?zio's writing style.
You all were super helpful the last time I went on a book buying spree that I thought I'd ask again. What's good that isn't written in a way that makes it difficult for a non-native speaker to understand?
Re: French book recommendations
Here's what's on my shelf right now, but I haven't read any of them yet (just the first few pages at the bookstore to make sure I wanted them):
HHhH by Laurent Binet- recommended by one of my editors in NY and also winner of the Prix Goncourt
Les Passagers de L'Anna C. by Laura Alcoba- read a review in a recent Paris Match and it seemed interesting
Le Club des Incorrigibles Optimistes by Jean-Michel Guenassia- was pushed heavily at the front tables at FNAC and was the Prix des Lecteurs "Selection 2012"
Two books I have read recently that I highly recommend:
La Bicyclette Bleue by Regines Deforges - the story of a girl and her fight against the German invasion of France during WW2.
La Vingtieme Epouse by Indu Sundaresan - I don't think it was originally written in French, but it is an extremely interesting read about a culture I knew very little about.
I had a couple others, but I can't remember the titles right now. I'll PM you if I think of it.
