Anyone doing WW? I have a GREAT tip.

My sister told me about this. If you buy freshly made homemade vegetable (no meat) eggrolls from your local Chinese restaurant (not cooked, still uncooked) and you bake them at home in your oven or toaster oven (around 350 degrees about 8 - 10 minutes on each side to crisp).  Just spray the pan and the eggroll with a no calorie and no fat cooking spray for a quick second before you put them in the oven.

They come out crispy and delicious.  You won't miss the way they're normally prepared, which is deep fried.

The best part?  1 point for 1 eggroll.  The point is just for the skin of the eggroll since it's just shredded veggies (no points) and no meat (no points).  I use hot mustard, which is 0 points, unless you eat like 10 packets, then it's like a couple of points or so?

  • That's a great tip Mav! I did WW in the past and it was really helpful for me. I still use some of the knowledge I've learned from there....and considering my love for eggrolls, and new found goal of eating less crap in general and more veggies, this post makes me really happy ;-)
  • ohhh, thats a great idea!! Thanks Big Smile

  • I'm glad you guys like the tip!  It's the best 1 WW point ever.  Even my husband liked the baked eggrolls and he won't go back to the deep fried ones.  He's trying to lose weight with me, but he won't go so far as doing WW though.

The veggie eggrolls are a good choice for Friday dinners during Lent.  Add shrimp fried rice to this dinner, but use mostly shrimp (very low WW points) and a little rice (brown rice is better than white rice) and a ton of vegetables.  Add hot sauce to taste, no to little points.  And/or a smidge of low sodium soy sauce.  Good stuff!

eta: Forgot to mention the eggrolls freeze well.  Just take them out the night before you want to eat them so they separate without breaking the skin.  Or, I guess you can individually wrap them with plastic baggies.  My sister picks them up for me, she asked when the restaurant prepares the eggrolls and she picks up a bunch for her and me that day so they're fresh.

  • Thanks!  I'll have to tell DH to do this.  He loves Chinese, but hates fried foods.  I'm not a fan since we moved to the middle of nowhere (read no good food for at least an hour), but he's less picky about Chinese.  He'd love this.
  • That's awesome Mav!! I will be calling my restaurant tomorrow!

  • That's a really great tip!  I would never even think about getting them uncooked.

  • I don't know how it affects WW points, but it's super easy to roll your own eggrolls and bake them too. H and I do that a lot with different "stuffings". We do southwestern ones with black beans and chicken and veggie ones with cabbage and carrots and stuff. There are tons of recipe suggestions - I just google whatever I feel like making at the time.
