Mfp question

I'm wondering if someone can clue me in. I have been using my fitness pal app for a while. My daily calorie goal is 1200 for a 2 lb loss a week. If I add in cardio work outs it ups my daily calorie goal. Am I supposed to add back to match the calorie remaining number or am still trying to create a deficiet? Kind of confused.

Secondly, to use the barcode scanner on an iPhone do you need to download additional scanner apps or software? I can never get it to scan.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Mfp question

  • 1200 is not enough calories. But anyway, let's say your workout burns 200 calories. That leaves you at 1000. You still have 200 calories you can use to eat and you still won't be at a defecit. Your 1200 is a defecit already from where you were before you started cutting calories.

  • So should I be looking at consuming more than 1200 calories a day?

Yesterday for example, my goal was 1200 but I consumed 1462. I worked out burning, according to Mfp, 281 for a net of 1181. Should my net be 1200 after working out? I'm sorry for the questions.

First, your body needs calories just to function, even if you laid on the couch all day you still need calories to breath, digest food etc. Then when you factor in exercise and any movement you are going to have to up those calories. Try 1500.

And yes, you should be at 1200 by the end of the day. You did not eat more than 1200, you burned and then added back what you burned.

  • Makes sense now. Thanks.

  • 2lbs a week is pretty ambitious! I have MFP set at 1.5 a week and I don't feel deprived of calories. It's more manageable than the amount it had given me for 2lbs a week. FWIW... I lose over 2lbs a week consistently on the weeks I work out 3+ days a week anyway.

Like PP mentioned, MFP is set up for you to eat the calories burned.
