Loan consolidation while living abroad

I am trying to find a place in the US to consolidate my private student loans, but the place I talked to already (Wells Fargo) doesn't allow people living outside the US to file for the consolidation loan.

I know some of you ladies have student loans too and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with consolidating while living abroad.

TIA!

Re: Loan consolidation while living abroad

  • I don't have any useful tips for how to do this, but when I was living in Latin America I just switched my address to my parents' on all these forms and had payments withdrawn automatically from my account.  I granted my dad power of attorney and I think he was the one who last consolidated my loans, since it would have taken forever and a day for me to do that from rural Central America.  So my last consolidation was done in the U.S. while I was abroad, but I still used a U.S. bank account/U.S. address, etc.  Good luck!

  • This is a good idea!  My other problem is that I'm not working and even if I was, my employer on a loan application has to be located in the US.  It's looking like I just won't be able to consolidate.
