Moms - fetal echo?

Did anyone have to have this?  Apparently, my kid has an arrhythmia, which could either mean sudden death or really bad hiccups.  WTF.  They can't take me until Friday, and I also have to have my glucose tolerance test that day.  Blerg.
We, we like to party.

Re: Moms - fetal echo?

  • I don't know of anyone who's had one, but I hope it's just the hiccups or something equally benign.
  • I haven't, but my bestie had some u/s heart weirdness that turned out to be nothing. Her doctor said usually it's nothing, and of course there's a lot they can do now with fetal or postpartum surgery that weren't possible 20 years ago.

  • I know nothing about this, but I'll cross my crossables for you and hope it's the hiccups.

  • Yep, I had one when I was about 22 weeks pregnant I think? It's really no big thing...Just like a regular ultrasound, but all they look at is the heart. They *really* look at it though and it takes about 30-60 minutes. But mine was only to check her for heart murmurs, so nothing really serious. The tech will do it, and the the Prenatal Cardiologist will come in and look at it some more and tell you what they find. Good luck!

  • We had one as the result of our NT scan. Once all the chromosomal tests came back normal they said the next thing to look at was structural heart defects.

It was basically just a really long ultrasound. It's stressful because the tech doesn't say anything, and you don't really know what you're looking at. So I kept staring and the red and blue spots on the monitor and wondering what they meant. We also got to see the 4 chambers of the heart, but again, I didn't know if the little fluttering between the chambers was normal or completely off or not supposed to be there at all, you know?

Anyway, I know when you're worried about your baby it's impossible not to think in worse case scenarios, but I'm sending big vibes for a hiccuppy baby.

  • Thanks guys. I'm not freaking out about it as much as I thought I would; I think my H is more nervous than I am. Duckis, I think that is the worst part; that I know enough about echo to know when I see 4 chambers, but I don't know anything about kids or fetuses (feti?). I'm pretty sure she has 4 chambers and a grossly normal aorta, but beyond that I'm at a loss. I guess it's good because then we'll know if she has something structurally wrong. I've been reading stuff about the medications I'd have to take if she did indeed have a problem, and I need to stop...

  • Wilmaforce is sending you hiccup vibes. I'm pretty sure she started having hiccups right before I opened this post so I hope that means her vibez are powerful.

I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz
