Need new breakfast ideas!

I try to keep my breakfast high protein and under 350 calories... would love to hear some suggestions. I am allergic to nuts... so only peanut butter for me.

Most mornings I have Fage with 1/3 cup of Kashi Go Lean Crunch... and an iced coffee. I am so over it.

TIA!

Re: Need new breakfast ideas!

  • How about some eggs?  Do you have time to cook them in the mornings?  You could make an egg sandwich.  Egg, whole wheat english muffin or toast and a slice of cheese is a pretty healthy and filling breakfast.  If you don't have time to make this, maybe you could take hard boiled eggs with you.

Or how about making your own protein smoothie?  You can mix up the ingredients to make different ones so that you don't get bored.

Or whole wheat toast or an english muffin with some peanut butter spread on it.

I personally have a bowl of cereal w/ skim milk, a banana and coffee almost every morning.  The cereal is the "healthy" kind, usually Kashi, but I try to buy several kinds so I can switch them up.

  • I do a lot of egg white/reduced fat pepperjack cheese/100 cal english muffin sandwiches. They're usually about 200 calories so plenty of calories left for banana or apple and peanutbutter or turn the iced coffee into a coffee blend with protein powder or something.

I also have an emergency stash of boiled eggs, string cheese and almonds (not an option here obviously) for mornings when NOTHING is going right.

  • I got this recipie from Marksdailyapple.com. It sounds weird but they are really yummy! You take a hardboiled egg and wrap it in sausage and then cook in in a frying pan until the sausage is cooked.

I make a big batch of these on Sunday and my DH and I eat them through the week for a quick breakfast. They are good cold or hot imo.

  • How high protein? My breakfast today had 21g of protein, but I probably could have gotten more if I swapped out my english muffin for an additional half cup of yogurt. Today I had egg beaters on a toasted light english muffin w/ cheese and 1/2c plain yogurt w/ 1/2 strawberries and black coffee. And that was all only 250 calories. I did also have a banana a short while later but I counted that as my morning snack LOL

  • To make an egg breakfast sandwich easier, you can microwave your egg! Scramble an egg with some pepper and salt in a microwave safe bowl. Cover (I use a small plate) and microwave for 50 seconds. Viola! I put it on a whole wheat english muffin with some turkey or ham and cheese. :)
  • Love all these ideas! I'm gonna try an english muffin sandwich next week... time is always an issue but I used to make them. I had kind of forgotten about those as an option!
  • I make my egg sandwiches the night before. I toast the engligh muffin and then assemble them. In the morning i'll either eat it cold (i'm weird, i like a lot of foods cold) or i'll microwave it for 30 seconds.
  • I have been loving egg muffins. This week I did eggs , spinach, feta, and mushrooms I just scramble them all together, throw them in a muffin tin and bake them up! I grab 2 in the morning and heat them up at work.

  • egg beaters, egg whites or real eggs; "green monster" milkshake: almond milk (or skim), 1 scoop protein powder (I like choc or vanilla) and fill up the rest of the blender with spinach + crushed ice > I never get sick of these!!  chicken sausage - Trader Joe's has a variety of flavors; bacon, oatmeal (banana bread flavor mixed with 1 tbsp of pb is awesome), pb & j on whole wheat bread - toasted; veggie omelette
  • Love your Portland Shamrock shirt! ;-)

I haven't read the other comments, but I try to keep my calories in the same range. I do oatmeal, & add the fruit to steam & get a little soft (I dice pear, apple, etc) & I add peanut butter for protein. Perhaps you could stir in some Greek yogurt, since that's not an option?

Other favorites - dice part of a red/bell pepper, & sautee it briefly with spinach, mushrooms, whatever you have. Add an egg, and a sprinkle of cheese. Serve on a whole wheat English muffin.

I also like protein smoothies (protein powder, banana, milk or water, ice, etc).

  • I do the english muffin sandwich a lot too. Whole wheat muffin toasted, either a cooked egg (I have one of those mini skillets that cooks one egg to just the right size) and a little cheese, or a veggie sausage patty with either some cheese or a few avocado slices.

Or a magic bullet protein powder fruit smoothie.

Or a Clif bar and/or an apple if I'm really just running out the door.
