I spend sooo much time researching where to stay on our trips. A friend recommended this site and its awesome! We are using it to book our week long trip to Hawaii in May and our New Orleans trip this summer. It's listings of vacation rentals by owners - if you aren't planning on staying in a hotel its a great resource to have multiple options at your fingertips.
Anyway, thought maybe the other travelers of this world would like it

Re: VRBO.com
yes, I love it.
you just have to be sure to go with a place that has lots of reviews and remember that these are not necessarily business people you are dealing with all the time. so go in with low expectations and then be pleasantly surprised ;-P
Have used them two times (Big Island & Vegas), and just used Homeaway (Oregon Coast) which is basically the same thing. Great experiences with all three places!
L'isle Sur la Sorgue, Provence
I've used them to rent probably close to 10 houses in various locations since 2007.
3 in St. Thomas for our destination wedding plus Jackson Hole, Salt Lake City, Charleston, Pinehurst, Massenutten, and probably at least one more I'm forgetting.
Never had an issue at all. Love it!
We're renting an apartment in Paris through VRBO in a week in a half. The owner has been so helpful- she provided information about the neighborhood (Latin Quarter) that included everything from taxi numbers, info on bakeries, even a walking tour of the area. I am really looking forward to staying in a Parisian apartment!
We're also staying in a houseboat in Amsterdam that we found through HomeAway.com, which I believe is affiliated with VRBO. I've had a similiar experience with the owner of the boat- he's been so quick to answer any questions and is meeting us the day we arrive to show us around the neighborhood.
