House off the market

I am going out with our realtor to look at a few places this week and our favorite one (from online) just went off the market.  It doesn't say that it was sold, just that it's no longer for sale.  I don't think anybody was living there because all the pictures were enpty rooms.  Has anybody experienced this?  Our realtor said she would check into it, but I am really bummed.  We liked this place way more than any other ones we have seen.  My DH and I are hoping that they took it off and are planning to relist it soon so that it looks like a new listing and generates more interest.  This home buying stuff is stressful already!

It's possible there an offer was received and accepted, but there's also a chance that the listing expired or the seller delisted the home to updated the listing.  Which site are you using?  Often times you can search for homes under contract and see if it pops up that way.  Either way, I'd have your realtor call.  We just put in a back up offer on a house that's had an offer submitted to the bank as a short sale.

  • We saw a lot of that when we were looking too. 9 times out of 10 it was sold/pending. Good Luck on your search

  • I am hoping they are just updating the listing!  It has been on the market for almost 6 months so it would be bad timing if somebody else put in an offer on it 2 days before we went to go see it.  Oh well.  I found another place I am obsessed with now.  :)

  • I think most listing agreements are for 6 months, so maybe it expired.

  • Wow, you sound like me. I obsess over homes online too. I "decorate" them in my head also.

There was one we liked back in the fall season. It went off the market, but I keep looking for it under sold properties and it doesn't appear. I think it was delisted.

Our plan is going to be to have our REA see if it did sell and if not, have her contact the sellers and see if they are willing to let us see it. If we like it and they still want to sell, maybe we'd put in an offer.

I've heard of buyers just asking people if they want to sell a home and sometimes even if the place isn't listed officially, they want to.

In my mind the worst they can say is no. Maybe you could try this tactic if it hasn't sold.

  • I saw the house we're under contract for online three days before it was delisted (had been listed for three months). It came back a month later after they painted and got rid of the popcorn ceilings. Definitely make sure your agent calls. I've seen this happen with several properties.
  • Had this same thing happen last week.  House was listed in the fall, then again in Feb.  It was empty & had a great reduced price that would have been perfect for us.  Checked with my realtor & it has an accepted offer...bummed!

  • It turns out that the house has been on and off the market since 2009 and the owner just decided to rent it out because somebosy approached him/her about a 2 year lease.  I guess they had offers but were unwilling to negotiate.  Bummer.
