Help me put together a Boston goody bag for my dad

He already has subscriptions to RW and RT so magazines are not needed.  I am going to get him a "good luck" card and I laminated the picture of him and I from the marathon we both BQ-ed at.  I am going to ask him to fold it up and carry it in his fuel belt so that I can be there running with him.  Smile

I am going to add a few packets of his favorite Hammer gels and a few of his favorite snacks.  What else could I put in it?  He's flying so I'd rather make it a smaller bag with items he can get past security!  They are sending their luggage with friends so that they only need carry on's.

  • I don't have any suggestions, but I wanted to say that I think this is a super cute idea.  Especially the pic if you guys after qualifying!

  • Aw, that's cute about the picture. What about one of those small Body Glides? Extra socks and flip-flops/sandals for after the race? Bandaids? Print a map of the T so he knows how to get around Boston? Directions to the Sam Adams Brewery? Beer

  • I did something similar for my mom who's running this year too. I had Gu, shot blocks, this book (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-boston-marathon-bill-rodgers/1105552685?ean=9781572435438&itm=1&usri=9781572435438 ), and arm sleeves in case it's cold at the start.

I'd double check the Hammer Gel can make it through security or that it ends up in his liquids bag. I feel like it might fall under the "liquid" catagory.

Gels, bloks, beans, and gus are all fine as long as they are 3 oz or less and are in your liquids bag. I have never had a problem carrying my Shot Bloks through security. Or my full-size Body Glide either.

  • So far I picked up a blue bag that I will decorate in yellow, a card, printed & laminate the photo and got him a box of kashi granola bars.  I guess I'll skip out on the gels since A. he has a bottle he is taking and B. I want him to open the bag on the airplane.

    Keep the ideas coming!!

  • A Ziploc baggie of Epsom salts for a post run soak!

And even if he already has a pair, a new pair of compression socks or sleeves.  That would be nice for the flight too.

I got Josh a stash of non-running magazines (Guns & Ammo, Men's Health and a cooking one) for some non running related reading
