Has anyone had a "calf strain?"

Went to PT today and he said I have a "calf strain" and that I need to cross train/take time off.  He didn't know specifically, but said I could try a run this weekend.  Anyone else had one and can tell me a good time frame for healing?  Thanks!

Re: Has anyone had a "calf strain?"

  • I had one a few years back, it took about 6 weeks to heal completely, but that was mostly because my dumbass strained it on the way to a half & then ran the whole thing in pain. Don't do that.
  • ditto, i only took off about 2 weeks before a 70.3 Tri and it has never been the same. It sometimes flares up during yoga or deep massage. REST. I did most of this every day before my event:

    • electric stim
    • active tissue release/ Graston
    • acupuncture
    • kinesio taping ( wore tape during participation)
    • massage
    • amino acid supplements

all that will help speed up your recovery. Good luck!

  • Oh man, sad.  The official muscle/tendon that is strained is the posterior tibial.  I sort of want to curl up and cry. I have been riding my bike for cross training, but I am afraid even that will flare it up.  Lame-o.  Thanks for the replies.
