Board GTG Poll

I know many of us would like to have another board GTG, so I think we should start planning something. This is just a poll to get the ball rolling for a date and location. I think we should look at this fall at the earliest, so that everyone would have a good amount of time to plan. So...

What time of year would be best (fall, winter, spring, summer)?

Where would we like to go (region, city, etc.)?

Re: Board GTG Poll

  • Just prefacing this with: I don't know if we'll be able to swing something like this with a new member in the household soon. So definitely don't try to make this work around me.

But if we could I wouldn't be able to do anything until next year because LO will be too small and we have my brother's wedding in October. So ideally next early spring or summer.

In terms of where, well obviously the east coast is the most convenient for me. DC maybe? California would be fun though. I've wanted to go to San Fran.

  • Fall is a good time but we can always push it out to (hopefully) accommodate more people. I know with babies being born and other TTC, it is hard to predict.

Fall is ideal for SF (less fog) but spring/summer is nice too. It can get hot here but not the humid hot like EC.

San Francisco would be fun. I really want to go back.

I can make that happen if SF ends up being a contender. SF is about an hour away from where I live and my SIL lives in SF too!

  • Love!

In the effort to keep the (sort of) promise to myself I want to try and make any and all future GTGs after kicking myself over Chicago for too long...I'm in.

So, that being said, I'm up for anything but I'd like it if it's an easy place to get to (i.e. a city or destination as opposed to the middle of nowhere).

There's also the option of renting some type of house on the lake or ocean through vrbo.com too.  Sometimes that can be more affordable that multiple hotel rooms in a city.

Selfishly I'd like a place with a ton to see and do.  San Fran, Vegas, Washington DC, NYC etc.  I like to stay busy on vacation and see and do as much as possible in any given time frame!

Easy to get to is a must! I think having a bunch to do is a plus, too. I love seeing new places.

I think fall is the best weather all around, but September is almost always out for most of us, so that leave us with October and the first part of November before everyone gets super busy with the holidays.

Below is a short list I compiled of some options. I tried to include places in various regions, but I know some regions are lacking (I'm not super familiar with the south and mountain states) so please feel free to add or nix anything. I can do a clicky poll at a later date. Also, we can always do Chicago and Boston again if people would want to. Chicago is close enough to me that since I don't have to fly I would likely always attend. I know Boston is like that for quite a few, too.

I should also add that anything 9 months out is up in the air for me now because of maybe having a baby at some point. I'm comfortable making commitments of 6 months in advance, though Smile

  • I'm all for another GTG. Whenever is good for me.

Of course it should be someplace that is easy to get to for everyone. It would be nice if some of the girls who haven't had a chance to come before could it make to this one, so if we have to choose location based on that, I'd be okay with this. Like Jaime said, it can be $$$ to get multiple hotel rooms in a city, unless someone has a sweet hook up like Sarah B did in Chicago. If we have to look at renting a house or large apartment, we should consider that too.

  • San Fran!!!!! I could definitely swing somewhere in CA, I am not sure about anywhere else due to the cost of flights out of Fresno these days. Bonus, I bet you all would get to meet baby and L!

  • It would really depend on when/where.  I really really hate to fly.  We are also planning to rent a house for a week on the island where i grew up and we met and my parents are still there and it's not cheap.  That being said I would love to go and may just need to suck it up on the flying thing.

  • I'd be interested, but it would depend on when. BFF's wedding is in November, so preferrably, after the first of the year.

  • I'm interested, I like the idea of renting a house or something to keep it MM and also I'm sure we'll spend a lot of time gabbing etc. Maybe somewhere we can sightsee if wanted, chill out, etc... Key west is a lot of fun, Orlando, Dallas, Vegas, napa? Jenn - I'll hold your hand on the flight or give you an ambien

  • I would love to go if $$ allows :) Our trip to ATL will likely be our last random weekend for a long time given our daycare bill.

We're most likely going to STL for a week in Sept or Oct to see C's family, and I'm running NYC the first weekend of November. Otherwise, work aside, I'm pretty open. I don't mind flying but anything other than super cheapo tickets will need some significant lead time (besides baby organization time).

I'd love to go to Cali - I've only been once and that was for U23s and heaven knows I saw nothing but the airport and Target - but I can't see that working out prior to 2013.

  • Money-wise things are and will be really tight once the baby comes so flying to the east coast will be an issue for me.  Flying west to east seems to be super expensive out of LAX or any of the other airports around here.  I'm pretty sure I can get a decent priced flight when they have deals to San Fran from here.  San Diego is right around the corner from me and Vegas is not too bad of a drive or flight so I am up for those.
