Ugh. Need help with flats.

Part of my problem is that I am only attracted to ugly platform heels. I know this is true because of polling. So bear with me.

Because I am normally attracted to fugly shoes, I cannot judge what is attractive. On top of that, I find all flats ugly; so my tastes are the exact opposite of most women. But I want to have at least one pair of flats.

If you have any spare time to fritter away, would you mind posting pics of (ballet-style) flats you find attractive? So I have some idea? Or if you come across ugly ones post those too (but please explain why they're ugly because I won't know).

TIA.

Re: Ugh. Need help with flats.

  • What about a classic pair of leopard print flats? Or a ballerina style flat - a plan flat with a tiny bow on the front in black or a fun bright color?

  • I saw these the other day and am in love (the teal) - I pretty much like a lot of Steve Madden flats and also find them very comfortable (no breaking it period)

  • I find many, many flats ugly so I can give you my opinion.I love flat sandals, but flat shoes that I like are really, really hard to come by.

Any flat that has a little teeny bow at the front - yuck.

Most any flat with the elastic back - yuck. My main exception here is the Lucky Emmie, although I'll be honest in saying I've tried them on at least 6 times and can't pull the trigger yet.

So, when it comes to the flats I actually DO like they're all more like actual shoes if that makes sense.

Like these Fossil Flats are cute

These Dolce Vita ones are cute (I have them in nude)

As for casual "flats" I really don't care for many of them either. I just wear my Toms or Converse (...and I don't find either of them to be particularly cute, but I hate tennis shoes, so I kind of need a casual shoe option).

  • J Crew has some nice ones.

I also like these, but they're pretty expensive.

I like the leopard print idea. I spent a lot of time yesterday looking at leopard flats and put at least 6 pair in my cart, but they're all different and I don't know how to choose.

What do you think of these?

Are these ugly? They are very comfortable, according to reviews. And they don't make me heave.

  • Steve Madden Haven are my go to flats!  I've bought 3 pairs of black and am about to get another nude pair.  I love them!!!!
    Anniversary

  • NB I think the two you posted are actually pretty cute. The leopard ones are cute for work and more dressy stuff (but can work for jeans and Ts too), and the Patagonia ones look like good walking around/shopping/errand shoes since they are more sporty.

I like the classic ones PP posted, but I DON'T like the ones with the buckle. I don't normally like buckles on flats or too many details on flats. I think one is better off going for a more classic style, and getting a fun print (like leopard) or color vs some with more embellishments.

I like Gap's city flats for comfy flats, but I hate the damn bow they added to them. I haven't seen these in person, but it may be possible to tuck in the bow so you don't see it (like actually ballerina shoes).

I hate these, but the leopard ones are pretty cute. I'm having a problem with all the ones like that with the elastic band around the top interior that are popular right now, but they're definitely not awful.

I just bought some Steve Madden ones that are almost identical to this from The Rack.  I love Steve Madden and Nine West flats.

  • I love my Tory Burch Eddie flats in Nude leather (not patent leather):

I'm not sure if this color is available now though.  They are really comfortable and it's lined with soft leather inside the shoe, which makes my feet feel good (no blisters, rubbing or anything bad).

Here's an old pic of me wearing them, to give you an idea on how they look:

  • I'm also a big fan of the Tory Burch Eddies. I have them in cognac and absolutely love them.

J.Crew's flats tend to be narrow for me, but they are cute and come in great colors.

Those look so great on you, they could push me over the edge! I'm THIS CLOSE to buying flats.

If you are debating on these, which do look great on her, I would personally get the lucky emmie ones Kate posted in the first response.  I have both the TB eddies and two pairs of the lucky ones, and they are super similar, and I personally think the Luckys are more comfortable.  They are a fraction of the price too, so I good way to break into flats that you don't even know if you will love, rather than break the bank with the eddies.

  • That should say kare as in karebears response and the first flat she posted.

  • NB and Queen Penelope--Thanks for the compliment!  I agree with QP, start off with the lucky brand flats to get used to flats in general.
