H is in surgery

DH is finally having his elbow fixed this morning. He's been whining about pain in his elbow for a really long time and he's finally doing the surgery to fix it. I feel bad for him because he's basically having a nerve relocated into the muscle where it should be. Sounds painful but he wanted to be better by the time baby gets here. Am I a bad wife for just hoping he quits whining so much? I can't be the only one with an H who can't handle pain/sickness.

Re: H is in surgery

  • Hope his surgery goes well, is it a long recovery? Unfortunately, my FI has been on your end when I was dealing with a lot of foot pain a few years ago. He helped me through two surgeries and the recovery process. I'm very grateful that he handled the frustration well because I know there was lots of it!
  • I'm not entirely sure about recovery but it will be a while. It's 2 weeks of basically no movement at all and then restrictions start to get lifted. I have to talk with the doc later to see if there's therapy involved but I believe we're looking at a couple of months.

  • Hope everything goes well for him!  No, you're not bad for wanting the whining to end, but it's probably a good thing if you want him to feel better more.
  • I had this surgery. Make sure after those first 2 weeks of no movement that he really works to get full of motion back.

I was given the wrong instructions and told not to move my arm much weeks 2-4. Combine that with the atrophy I had from not really using my arm for 3 months prior to surgery meant that it took 8 weeks of PT for me to be able to straighten my arm and bend it back. Then came working with small amount of weights to I could actually do something useful with my arm again.

  • You didn't find out about the recovery before the surgery? Yikes! Hopefully it's straightforward and YH will feel loads better really fast.

  • I found out about recovery just from why H knew. I'm assuming he paid attention since he's an adult. Hopefully they don't throw anything crazy at us. He's actually all done and we're hanging out in recovery until they say we can go home. He's been using his arm fine up until today so I'm hoping we don't have too many issues, but I'm a good nurse so I think he'll be ok.
