Oh, crap.

I'm going to meet with my pt (who is a teacher at my school) tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure this annoying knee pain is patellofemoral syndrome. I've got all the symptoms. 

Looks like the only cure is pure rest.  Um...I have my first marathon in seven weeks. I'm really really really freaking out right now.

Anyone have any experience with this?  I know I should wait to see what she says, but...

  • I had it when I was training for Boston last winter. I had to back off the training a bit, but was still able to run, along with physical therapy, taping, and stretching. By the time the marathon came around I wasn't having any pain. There is hope, especially if you get in there before it gets bad.

  • see if you can try kinesio tape.  It can be really effective in reducing pain during your runs.

    Ha! I'll have you know I had water on my last long run. The guy I've been running with pretty much forced it on me. :)

  • I got pf about 8 weeks out from a marathon.  I followed the prescribed PT to the letter which included walking and biking with no resistance and a set of isometric exercises for the legs.  After about 4 weeks I was cleared to run, but I took it easy doing a conservative run/walk.  I was only able to get in one 18 miler and a couple between 12 and 16.  The good news is I finished the marathon with no pain.  However I had to throw out any notions of an awesome PR and just enjoyed the scenery. I missed a PR by only 3 minutes! You can do it and still finish the marathon, just follow everything you are told! GL!
