I've asked the ladies over in D&R, but since you ladies have such great taste, I thought I would ask you too :-)
We will be moving into our new townhome soon, and I am having a hard time deciding what to do in these two rooms (family room and eating area). The first picture was taken from the island in the kitchen, and the second and third picture are close-up of the rooms. I am thinking about putting a bar-height table in the little eating nook, by the windows. In the model, they have a couch facing the fireplace, with the tv over the fireplace. I would like to do something similar, maybe with a loveseat and a chair, but can't figure out how to place them. Any suggestions you could give would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Re: Not F&B related - anyone want to help me with furniture placement?
It's really hard to get a feel for the layout from these pitcures. I think you're going to just have to get some furniture in there and push it around until it "works". If you're doing a tv over the fireplace though a built-in would be great in that little cut out. Do you own it (meaning can you make changes)? If so something like one half of this would be great:
Can you post a floor plan too?
Before I saw Kare's post I was pictured built in shelves to the left of the fireplace, regardless if you mount the TV over it or would put it with the built ins.
eta: I actually think a round table with 4 chairs would look nice to the right of the fireplace near the windows. It looks like you could get good light in the corner so I'd try to place a table or a comfy chair, maybe recliner in the space to utilize it.
do you have a dining room else where? (It's gorgeous by the way, congrats!)

I always like the layout of the room with the green sofa in this link:

Except flip the sofa so it's facing the wall, and pretend that your tv and fireplace is where the wall art is.
I like the use of chairs in a smaller space because it provides extra seating without being as bulky as a loveseat.
I don't know if a loveseat would be too overwhelming for the space, but it's hard to gauge the size of a room from just a picture. If I were you, I'd get measurements for a sofa and love seat and use painters tape to do an outline of the furniture to make sure that it's not going to be too much furniture for the size of the seat.
Here is the floorplan (only opposite - the family room on the floor plan is where our kitchen is and vice-versa)
I think I'd mount the TV over the fireplace and put the couch directly in front of it with a rectangular coffee table. I'd probably do two upholstered chairs on either side of the coffee table. I think a loveseat would be too much. You could always do a round table with four similar chairs in the corner with the windows and have those chairs to pull over to provide additional seating? Hmm; it's hard to picture it all.
Do you have barstools for your island?
I guess I just wouldn't do a bar-height table because if you do want extra chairs, then you'd have some people sitting above others. With the island if you have barstools then you almost get like a tiered seating for the tv if you face them towards the couch/tv
