I'm headed out this evening for a fundraising reception for Elizabeth Warren (SQUEEE!!!!!), and since this is my first political fundraiser (crazy, right?), I thought I'd check in and see what you guys think in re: appropriate attire.
I'm assuming standard business attire is fine - skirt suit; blouse; fun shoes, bag, and jewelry - but I thought I'd double check.

It's being held at a union headquarters in DC.

Since you are looking for a job, I'd definitely stick to the standard suit because you never know who you will meet. (Otherwise, I love smorriso's ideas).
Since it's an evening reception and a more spirited occasion, I'd add something that's a bit more glamorous than what you'd wear to a job interview - like a shell that has a bit of sheen to it in a gorgeous color, and/or earrings that dangle ever so slightly.
Have fun!
