Sandals for business casual
If your office is business casual, can you get away with wearing flat sandals when it's hot out?
I know every office is different, but after 3 years at mine and being one of few young female, I can't decide what I can and can't wear when it comes to sandals. PIP what you wear or wouldn't wear please

We are the casual end of business casual, and yes I wear flat sandals (I am today in fact). I don't wear any type of flip flop style. I only make sure that they look nice and have a back to them. I have no idea why I've separated that in my mind, but I have. These are very similar to what I have on today.
If I were in a "true" business casual environment I woudn't wear sandals at all.

The girls in our office wear that type of sandal all the time in the summer as well. Not just on casual Friday.
Some women wear jean jackets and IMO, that's a similar "level" to the sandals you posted?

These are cute, but definitely not business casual - not even on the casual end of business casual.
I have a couple pairs of Sofft brand sandals that I've worn to the office on more casual days. These aren't the ones I own, but might be appropriate depending on your office.

The sandals kare posted would be a bit too casual, even on Fridays in my office.
But in the summer, it's mostly wedges M-F. I really like aerosoles.

If you're unsure about it I'd probably just pass or wait to see what others wear. I can wear jeans any day of the week, I just can't look "dumpy". I say it's the casual end of business casual because I don't know what else to call it. The "look presentable dress code??".
Jean jackets are hard b/c I think people are trying to use them inplace of cardigans & blazers, but they're not really business casual to me either. I could absolutely wear one here, but I wouldn't for true business casual.
What about a sandal with a small wedge like this one? I don't think this one is business casual either, but at my office it's totally wearable.
If your dress code is the relaxed end of business casual it may be workable, but if you hesitate it I'd pass on that too. As a rule of thumb if I am hesitating I pass. At my work I probably *could* wear a skinny strap shirt for example, but I would hesitate majorly so I never will - I always wear a cardigan.
I think classic styles, nothing too trendy (like platforms) like the pics below would be okay for business casual:

I just posted these in a thread above this. I just got them this weekend!
I know that places I have worked have specific guidelines on what is appropriate for work wear outlined in the policies, and sandals or open toe of any kind were always a no-no.
If you don't have specific guidelines in writing anywhere, I would base it off what others in my office wear. Currently, in the business casual setting I work in 2 days a week, attire varies, and I see anything from nice slacks and blazers with blouses, to corduroy pants with short-sleeves or jersey dresses, and our administrative assistants wear jeans often. As for shoes, I see a variety too from sneaker-flats to fancier pumps for women and nice sneakers to lace-up dress shoes for guys. I tend to find myself right in the middle of those extremes haha. I don't recall ever seeing anyone wearing sandals at all in this setting though, not even our student workers (this is in a college counseling center, FTR).

Im wearing a pair like the Kelly and Katie ones Kare posted today. They're fine in my business causal office. Im usually more dressed than my coworkers too.
I really think it depends on the office.

Thanks ladies. Busy-those would no doubt pass with flying colors here.
It's hard to judge based on what others wear bc besides me, in my office of 100, there are only 2 other women under age 30 and probably not that many in their 30's either.
I think I could wear both of those that you posted Kare. I may test it out by wearing a pair and just see if people look at my feet? Lol.
Bimbi-we do have a written dress code. For shoes it says acceptable are: loafers, dress boots, flats, and dress sandals. Unacceptable are: tennies/athletic shoes (which I do see), slippers, and work boots.
