More pics of house: outside
Since it was nice out yesterday, we decided that it was easy enough to paint our shutters and our front door. It was definitely the perfect little face lift to get me through until I can do a lot of planting! I really hated how all of the baby blue made the actual house look blue.

Thanks ladies! Musgral: it's stressing me out trying to figure out what to do with the front yard haha. The plan for this year is to keep it simple, and then figure everything out next year. We have all of these random patches of dafoldils and day lillies in the back yard, so I'm planning on moving them in the fall to make a nice border above our rock wall that separates the top tier of the yard, and the bottom tier.
Thanks! DH didn't trust me at first...just like he didn't trust my bathroom choice at first. I just don't know when he's going to learn haha.
My best advice for you is this:
watch the sun patterns in your yard in all seasons. Make a quick rough diagram that shows where the sun is in the AM, noon, and PM for the seasons.
Get your soil tested by the local extension office so that you know if it has good nutrients, is alkaline or acidic, etc.
Look for varieties of native plants - they will take much less water and maintenance than some of the ornamentals you can buy at Lowes/Home Depot.
When you go to choose plants look at the available sun and the soil tests to really buy plants that work well in your yard - it will save you tons of money in replacing ill-suited plants.
When you get closer to the time if you wanna run some plant lists by me I can let you know if they'll do well together or if there are other plants/textures/colors that you should think about including for interest.
