Hiking Montserrat, Spain

We?re trying to plan out a day in Montserrat (trying to get as much hiking in as possible) I?ve been looking for information on TA & other travel sights but it?s been hard to get a lot of details. This sight has been the most helpful - http://www.montserratvisita.com/ (you have to change it to English on the right) & then under Nature & Routes you can find more information on hiking trails.
But I wish I could talk to someone that?s actually done some of the trails.  So if anyone has hiked in Montserrat I?d love to hear about it.  Some questions I have; Are the times given for each trail round trip or one way? Which trails do you think are more worth your time?  Anything you?d like to share would be appreciated
J

  • All that I can say is....it is really high! Indifferent

    Also, really beautiful! Enjoy it!

  • I've been to Montserrat twice. We didn't go hiking but we did short walks on the trails after taking the funicular to the top. Everyone there is really helpful, and every vista is gorgeous, so don't be afraid to just wing it.

    Have fun!

  • DH and I went last month and loved it! After the train and the cremallera, we took the San Joan funicular to the top (the second one was not in service), and went on a shorter trail first, also called San Joan. The length and the timing of the trails are shown, but I guess it really varies - how fast you walk, how often you take breaks etc. After the short tail, I convinced DH to climb the San Jeronimo trail - its peak is 1,236 meters high! - and it took us about 1.5 hrs each way, but the views are spectacular! We are not too athletic, and the climb was a bit steep at times, but it was totally worth it. GL!
