so is this worth taking a day off?

I'm kinda sick. I've had a mild cold for 9 days, feeling tired, coughing a bit, and keep blowing my nose. but not sick enough to stop anything/call in sick/go to bed for the day.

I've been working out every day (except sundays, my dor). And I'm not shaking my cold. So today I stayed home.

Only now I feel kind of guilty. I don't feel any better, but I don't feel especially bad, I just am not 100%.

Would you have taken a day off for this? or two days? Or should I go tonight? or work out extra hard tomorrow?

thanks!

  • can you do a light exercise? whenever i am not feeling 100% i try to go for a 1 mile run or something very light. so i feel like i have done something but haven't compromised my health

  • Relax.  One day of rest a week is minimal.  I take 2-3 days a week to rest.

  • Thanks. I did go for a walk (instead of a run) this morning, I couldn't just sit at home and do nothing.

I guess I'll see how I feel tomorrow.

  • Rest, rest, rest. Watch tv, read, etc. It's perfectly fine to take a few days off til you feel better. You will NOT lose fitness in a few days.
  • Definitely rest!

I was sick one time while training for a race and I just couldn't shake it.  I was just exhausted and felt really crappy.  I hated to do it, but I took a whole week off from exercising.  It was really hard, I felt like a slug, but the rest was just what I needed.  I felt so much better afterwards.

Not that you have to take a whole week, but sometimes your body does just need to rest a little bit.
