How to clean a brown leather jacket?

I wore my brown leather jacket yesterday and now I have a sweat stain inside the collar a little bit.  Should I clean it at home to get it out (if so, how to clean the jacket without permanently discoloring the leather)?  Or should I take it to a dry cleaner that specializes in cleaning leather?

As always, thanks in advance.

Re: How to clean a brown leather jacket?

  • I would take it in to a professional, I wouldn't want to risk ruining it myself, considering leather jackets are pretty expensive and are usually purchased as staple pieces, meaning you want it to last awhile!
  • I would take it to a professional. Either a dry cleaner you trust that works with leather, or even a cobbler because they know everything about leather and will sometimes work with bags and jackets for stuff like that.

  • Check with a cobbler or dry cleaner.  A cobbler would probably be more reasonable and faster since dry cleaners send out leather.  It can take a couple of weeks to get leather back from them.  Be careful though because I've had leather ruined by dry cleaners who sent my jacket out.  Look for reviews online to make sure they know what they are doing.
