Do you dress up for homecomings?

Last time it was at night and cold out so I definitely didn't... I mean I wasn't a scrub or anything but I didn't wear a cute dress or heels or anything. This time I was thinking of wearing a new dress and wedges.

What do you think? Too much?

Re: Do you dress up for homecomings?

  • Last time was in March along the water in WA so I wore jeans and a nice top since it was pretty cold.  Then I brought heels to change into closer to H getting off the ship.

When he comes home from month long underways I don't wear anything special.

I think a dress and wedges would be fine.

  • Not really.  The last "homecoming" was picking him up from the airport at about 730a.  He was lucky I showered given how early I woke up on a saturday.  Honestly, I don't put much thought into what I wear on any given day, so an airport pickup wouldn't really be much different.

  • It depends on what time he gets in.  No one sees me but him, a few other dudes and maybe another s/o.  He's come in at 4am where I wore cute jammies.  He's also come in at 7pm where I knew he would want to go eat.  I wore a shirt dress, leggings and flats.  Usually, I wear jeans and a cute top.

  • I'm going to be wearing a really cute dress and heels. I don't care a whit if I'm the wife that gets side eyed. A. I'm still a newlywed, and I only care that H thinks I look hot. B. I am now too old for the bouncy castle, and C) I'm wearing a fake mustache. I need to offset that.

Better than making an H/C sign that talks about sex, IMO, and my legs won't be around his waist.

I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • I wore a semi-nice top, skinny jeans & boots. I was also 9 months pregnant & it was 11pm. I did do my hair & have my make-up done but that is pretty common for me.

  • The first deployment, I didn't bother.  For the second, I did dress up (for me - most women wouldn't have considered it much beyond normal... it was a light summery dress).  I dressed up for the second one because I had lost 50lbs while DH had been deployed, and I wanted to show it off...

  • In the past I always dressed nice when picking H up at the airport (he left and returned by himself in previous deployments).  When he returned last week with his group I just wore a nice top, jeans and flats.  I'm glad I did because it was ridiculously windy and I was chasing my 19 month old around for 45 min. before he arrived.

  • Dress and heels, but I'm rarely out a tshirt so any reason to dress up is reason enough for me.
    Shot first, questions later.
  • I usually wear something cute.  One time it was a cute denim skirt and a nice tank (middle of the day in 29 Palms in the summer).  The most recent was a nice pair of jeans with a cute shirt, and heels, he came home in Dec at 10pm.  But it wasn't cold out, I even had coats picked out.  One for the daytime and one for night time, but the day he came home it was 70 degrees and it was only about 60-65 when he came home, so no coats!  I don't know about a dress, maybe a sundress but that is about as fancy as I would go.
  • I wore a dress, leggings, and boots when DH came home in November. I was expecting it to be cold and wear a peacoat too but it ended up being a semi-warm, REALLY humid day. Straightening my hair was pretty pointless... I definitely would have rocked a dress and wedges if it had been spring or summer. I honestly don't care what the other wives think. I'm there to impress my husband. Obviously I'm not going to show up in lingerie or anything but I wanted to look nice.

    Photo bomb, yeah!
  • I'm planning to wear this dress:

Would that evoke the side eye?  I definitely agree though that I'm there to look hot for my hubby after he hasn't seen me in 8 months!  It's not like it's skanky or anything.  And there will be no leg wrapping either, lol!

Or I can wear this dress, same shoes

  • Heck yes!!! first deployment, I picked him up from the air port, and I wore a cute skirt and shirt.  the second was a bigger homcoming coming from 11 months in AFG, so I wore a super cute dress, and heels.  I like feeling pretty, and having my husband noticing me.  I dress up for him only and if others want to look, so be it, but nothing I would ever where would be skanky or low cut.  plus, when we finally get our alone time, dresses and skirts are way more fun to take off then jeans.  BTW we live in FL so we dont have to worry about the cold so much.

  • Hark, I say the Bailey dress. It's form fitting for sure, but covered up. I couldn't pull the trigger on it, but I thought about getting it for HC. I'm wearing a form fitting dress that's not inappropriate also. Form fitting > boobs hanging out.

  • I've always worn jeans,a a nice sweater or fitted t-shirt and flats or something like that.  Our homecomings have been at ridiculous hours, but I've always done my hair and makeup(nothing special to it though).  I've never purchased a new outfit for homecoming and I've always just worn one of my favorite everyday outfits.  DH and I are both very laid-back and casual and I have always thought it is best that he comes home to the same wife he left.  This is just something I picked up on from my brothers talking about it when I was younger.

I think it all depends on you and SO though. A friend of ours gets dressed up every time her and her hubby go out--and by dressed up I don't mean nice jeans, a cute top and heels--i mean dresses, skirts etc, so she obviously went all out for the last homecoming.  That is her though and that is what her husband would have expected and appreciated.  WHere my husband would have been a little freaked out, it was perfect for them.

In the end I think you should do what you and hubby will appreciate most and forget about what anyone may have to say about it.

Just grab the right husband ;)

  • OP: I did not dress up for H's HC. I wore my favorite Jeans with a dressy black and white top.
  • Stan- its a great dress huh! I used my 15% off anthro birthday discount plus a 50$ bday gift card from my SIL so I only paid $115!
