Thinking of canceling MyGlam

I have only received two bags, but so far I've used nothing from the two bags, except for trying the Pur Lisse lip stuff once.  I was really hoping for actual makeup that I could use and not a bunch of skin and hair care samples, as I'm already very set on specific products for those (especially skincare).

I know they have received a lot of complaints about wanting more makeup in the bags, and think that maybe I should stick it out and see if it gets better over the next few months.  After all, it's only $10 a month.

Then again, I've already spent $20 and received nothing I like, and that's $20 I could have spent on full size products that I'll actually use.

Anyone else not thrilled?  Are you going to cancel or give it some time?

Re: Thinking of canceling MyGlam

  • Can anyone recommend a similar subscription type product that is limited to cosmetics, with no hair products or skincare?
  • I agree, although I have had one sample in each bag that has made the $10 worth it...   I think I will give them one more month.   However I was happy to have some nice green stripper glitter eye shadow on St Patricks day! =P

  • Some "Glammies" who went to an advisory board with Michelle Phan said that the next bags will be more glamorous, whatever that means. I've been happy with my bags, with the exception of the February bag.  I don't use everything, but I use enough that it's well worth the $10.

There isn't one, because most makeup companies don't make larger trial samples. Even Sephora only rarely has makeup samples & they're usually mascara or lip products. Birchbox has said they're trying to get companies to make more cosmetic samples for their boxes, but it's a slow process.

My Birchbox this month had a lipstick, nailpolish & blotting papers in it--which is the closest I've seen to an all makeup box ( I got the Teen Vogue box).

  • I cancelled MyGlam. The only big draw to that one for me was the little bag each month, but I realized that I really don't need a pile of random makeup bags that I don't even like.

I switched to Birchbox, but I haven't gotten one yet. I'll likely cancel that in a few months too.

  • I cancelled MyGlam. To me, it seemed like they got overwhelmed and threw a bunch of stuff in there. When I got it the chocolate was so melted it was all over the bag. So even that was a bust.

I have been happy with Birchbox though.

  • I cancelled mine after the second bag. I hated everything. I won't wear bright blue glittery roll on shadow (WTF?!) The $20 I spent on it pretty much went towards my 6yr olds play makeup, so at least it wasn't a total waste.

There are a couple of bags but I can't remember the names. AllThatGlitters & MissJenFabulous on youtube have reviewed some. They look fun, but I'm staying with BirchBox for now.

  • I cancelled after February (my first and only bag).  I wasn't totally disappointed, but it just wasn't what I was expecting.

  • TBH, I really can't understand why someone would pay $10 a month for samples that you may not even use when you can go to Sephora or Ulta or a dept. store. and get them for free.
  • I think I'm going to wait one more month. I never had huge expectations, but I just liked the idea of trying new items and getting something fun in the mail. I am thinking though that I'd rather just use that money to buy something I really want. So one more month,  then cancel is my probable plan.  Then I'll just order items I want from sephora, kiehls, ulta, etc and then pick good samples.

  • Stick it out one more month - I read on their FB page that next month's bag is supposed to have more makeup stuff.  If not, I'm planning on canceling after next month.

  • I cancelled as well. I signed up in December and the bags for January and February were not that great and for $20.00 I could have bought something I could have used. I think I will try the Birchbox and I really do not need a ton of little makeup bags laying around.

They advertise that you get deluxe samples and full size products, so I was expecting it to be a good deal.  And if you actually like the products they send, then it is a deal.  The last bag had a full size Pur Lisse lip nourisher that retails for $22.  I'll use it, but it's not a product I'm excited about.

  • I never tried MyGlam, but I canceled my Birchbox account, and I have not missed it once. It's fun to get things in the mail, but that's pretty much the extent of it for me.
  • I had MyGlam for Jan and Feb. I cancelled in Feb and signed up for BB again. I also received a free MyGlam bag for March and was very happy that I didn't pay for it and that I cancelled. I don't think I will use anything from it. I used one product from the 3 months.

I had BB for 3 months then cancelled and signed up again and got my first box today after my signing up again. The samples are worth it from BB and the sizes are much better than MyGlam. I have used almost everything from BB and I have purchased a few things in full size as well.

  • I have never been interested in these things because I just feel like it's another pile of crap I'll store under my sink. Yes, you may get a few good products out of every 10, but really, I prefer to do my research and find products based on my needs and pick my own colors.
