Have any of you used sleeping pills or aids or any of that stuff?
I'm a fairly light sleeper and MH is the total opposite. He's also something of a bed hog. I get woken up regularly (as in at least once a night, sometimes multiple times a night) by him. He does this... loud breathing... thing. I don't want to call it snoring because it's not, but it's freaking loud, louder than the usual "sleeping person" noises. Sometimes I get woken up because he's decided he wants to share a pillow and I'm getting morning breath blown at my face (it's charming).
Anyway, I already wear ear plugs and they help most of the time, but they're not doing enough. I know this is entirely my issue when it comes to the low noise tolerance and I try not to be all ugly about it but dang it, I'm tired!
So please, if any of you have a trick... tell me. I just want to make it through the night.
Re: Sleeping Pills / Aids / Do I have to kill him?
Nasal strips for him, white noise maker and a bigger bed for you? Kick him when he's all up on you. Hard.
I'm a super light sleeper as well so a snoring/bed hogging partner makes me stabby. I use earplugs, fan for white noise, and a jab in the ribs/kick to the shins when I'm crowded.
I'm a light sleeper and here are the things that help me:
I don't drink coffee beyond my 8am cup, anything later than 11am and it interrupts my sleep.
I don't look at my phone or watch TV about an hour before bed, I usually get in bed and read for 30-60 minutes before bedtime.
Taking a hot shower/bath before bed also helps.
I have taken melatonin and had some success and sometimes I just drink sleepytime tea or valerian root tea.
Deep breathing/meditation exercises also have helped.
My usual routine involves avoiding booze, eating dinner around 7:30pm with no snack before bed, having a sleepytime tea around 9:30 and getting in bed w/ a book. The melatonin made me feel a little groggy and crabby, but it might be worth a try.
ETA - Also like SCC said, we keep a fan on in the background, which creates a white noise and that helps.
I could have written this post myself.
Nasal strips do not work for my H. I am an incredibly light sleeper (which really, really sucks), and I find myself taking Unisom more than I'd like just to get at least six hours a night. I tried earplugs but I'm not doing it right or something, they always hurt to wear. If it's really, really bad (and has been for a few days in a row) I will go sleep on the couch just to try to sleep interrupted.
Looks like it's time for white noise. I'll grab a fan this weekend. I guess I didn't believe it worked, but it's worth a try if it works for other people.
I cannot wait to get a bigger bed. Seriously we have to get out of this apartment in to a bigger place. We've been sharing a double for 5 years now. Neither of us is that big of a person so it works but just barely. I have daydreams about pillow top Kings.
Yeahhhhh there's yer problem right thurr.
Fan + earplugs + bigger bed should help a lot. Worked for me.
I am also wondering if he hasn't got something called restless leg syndrome.
A full checkup by an MD would be a good idea. Let them rule out other problems with his health.
We have a queen and it's just not big enough even though we are relatively small people! I also have daydreams about a king sized bed. I think it would help us both sleep a whole lot better.
We just got a king and it's so fantastic I can't even tell you.
My H ended up just getting Ambien and using it when he really needs to get up the next day, so I'm not much help.
