Help me decide - Rip60 or P90X2

I'm tired of the P90X videos that we've been using for the last 2 years, so I want to try something new. Husband wants to get P90X2, I want to get Rip60 (or some other TRX system) so that we can try something completely different. Right now I run 3x/week, we lift 2-3x/week (P90X), and do HIIT 2-3x/week (Insanity).

Has anyone done P90X2? BIL and SIL love it, but I don't know if I need a whole new set of Tony Horton.

Any thoughts on the TRX-type systems?

Thanks, I'm very indecisive :)

Re: Help me decide - Rip60 or P90X2

  • We have P90x 1 and 2. I think P90x2 is a little easier, but the more I do it the harder it seems to get since my form is better. I followed the P90x2 program loosely, doing each phase for about 2-3 weeks, and now am mixing up P90x1 and 2. It may not be the most effective way, but it keeps me entertained.

I haven't tried Rip 60, but the idea of something different is appealing. I would lean towards this option b/c of two issues I have with P90x2. 1) Tony talks way too much. I fast forward so I get done quicker, but it is annoying. 2) some of the moves are annoyingly complicated. Part of the appeal of the first P90x for me was its simplicity. Also, b/c of the complexity of some of the moves Tony takes too much time to explain them (issue #1 again) For instance,  there is a move where you have your feet on an exercise ball and then each arm on a medicine ball, and do push ups. It is called the possible/impossible, but should be called the face plant.

Thanks! This is kind of what I was afraid of. We got P90X+ when we finished our first round of P90X, and I felt like he was just overcomplicating things for the sake of being an "extreme" workout. I was afraid P90X2 would be similar - I think the originals were pretty solid and it's kind of hard to improve on that without making stuff up.

He definitely talks too much in the originals, and it drives me crazy. Those tapes do NOT need to be 60 minutes long! I think Shoulders & Arms is his worst offense.

  • I'm in the middle of p90x2 and am really liking it.  I've done both p90x and p90x2 and insanity.

I think Tony said this is all about being a better athlete rather than getting in shape.  I really think that's true.  Some of the moves are hard, yes they are a little complicated but I find them hard and challenging.  In other words it's different and I appreciate different.

I agree that Tony does talk too much and sometimes fast forward but at other times I appreciate the break.

     I don't know anything about rip60

  • You might want to check out the insanity workout. I've heard good things about it.
