So today's my birthday. We've been busy all day. I went to a yoga class in the morning, we just got back from lunch and a trip to the DMV, and then we're having dinner with a bunch of friends in two hours. So my time that I'm not, you know, celebrating my birthday, is kind of limited. Also keep in mind that SIL lives 3 time zones behind me.
This morning around 9 (as I was eating breakfast before yoga), SIL sends me this text: "Happy birthday!! Let us know a good tme to call today so <nephew> can sing it to you!!!!
" I didn't text her back right away because I had to get my butt kicked in yoga.
So I texted her back on our way to lunch and said "Thank you! We are out to lunch now but if you guys are home I can let you know when we are done
"
She said this evening was best, so I said "Ok, I'll keep it in mind." (meaning, l will try and squeeze you into my birthday plans). Which was, apparently, the wrong thing to say.
She replies: "I'm sorry? What does that mean? We wanted to try this am but now we are all at work. But if it does not fit ur schedule, no worries, just enjoy your day!"
So I clarified, "We have dinner plans tonight so I don't know what time we will be home, but if we get home at a reasonable hour so you can call, I will let you know. That's all I meant. I wasn't home this morning either, it's a busy day.
"
Her reply? "Don't worry about it, I totally understand-mine just passed. Disneyland was amazing! Just nevermind but know he sang the song for you."
I told her "Whatever you guys would like to do is fine. It's so hard to coordinate things with the time difference! I appreciate the thought either way. Glad you had a good time at Disney."
So I think my inability to say "Call me at exactly 8:32pm so nephew can sing happy birthday at me" has royally ticked her off. Now it doesn't sound like she wants to call me anymore, heh. Not to mention, she could have always called and left a singing message on my voicemail. That's what my stepmom did. Leaving a message isn't the end of the world. But whatever. Just had to share that. Now I'm over it... probably. ![]()
