Is there a way to figure out an estimate of your bmr? I had someone give me a formula that I tried at it came out at 1924 calories. Perhaps it is possible but that just seemed ridiculously high to me.
Is there an actual formula to figure this out or is it bs that you can plug in numbers yourself and know?

Sorry, for some reason I can't link it.
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ is a decent calculator, or you can try some of the formulas on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basal_metabolic_rate
Once you have an approximate BMR, you can use the Harris Benedict equation to figure out how many calories you really burn every day (as opposed to BMR which is what you burn if you don't move around at all). I tend to use the "sedentary" option, which is BMR*1.2 as my base, then eat back any extra calories I burn. However, these formulas only give you an estimate, it's possible that your metabolism is faster or slower, and you may have to tweak your number up or down to get results (assuming you're trying to lose weight).
