I haven't seen anything the new girl is in. Does anyone know anything about her? She's cute, but I'm still upset that Amy and Rory will be leaving. I really hope they dont kill them off, but I wouldn't put it past Steven Moffat. The article above says that the Weeping Angels will be their demise, but I hope it's River that dies.
Re: Doctor Who's new companion was announced today
I'm a lurker but I saw this and had to post. Thanks for putting it up! I hate the fact that I finally got used to Mrs. and Mr. Pond
and now the writers are sending them away.
I don't know if this counts as a spoiler but we know that River won't be dying anytime soon since we already saw her demise...Series 4 anyone? You gotta love time travelers.
Anyway I digress, I've never heard of this actress but hopefully they don't turn it into another Rose...
I read an article that referred to the Ponds' exit at "heartbreaking". Just once, I'd like someone to leave their time with the Doctor and not be broken.
Count me with the people who hope this companion is not just another pretty girl from contemporary London who gets a crush on the Doctor. He's a Time Lord for goodness sake - where are the aliens? or people from the past/future? people from a different part of Earth even?
Also, Mr. Smith has done an admirable job (although not my favorite), but I think it's about time for a new Doctor as well.
ETA I could see Rory getting it from the Angels, I mean, technically, Rory isn't human, right? He's still that robot thing that sat outside the cube from Roman times (or did I miss something?), so he's not going to be able to grow old with Amy and have a normal life. So he might put himself at risk to save her. Or, you know, it goes the other way and she dies saving him... then he has to go off and live forever alone like Capt. Jack.
Americans would only know her from a small role in Captain America.
Anyone from the UK would know her as Jasmine from Emmadale. She was on the show for about 5 years which is probably why she got the job on Doctor Who (for being well known in the UK). She was in another UK series after Emmadale as well.
Rory actually is a human now. I can't remember exactly how it worked out, but something about un-doing the past. I just remember that *something* happened...oh, maybe the Doctor went into the cracks to fix time? Amy lost her memories because the Doctor then never existed so Rory never died/became a Robot, River came back to try to remind Amy of the Doctor, she did, and the Doctor reappeared.
This. We've seen her die, so we know she's ok.
Tea Time for Lulu
Basically, the universe is recreated from Amy's memories, which included a human Rory. The whole universe is a "reboot."
Here's from the wikipedia entry:
Amy and Rory discover that the wounded Doctor had told his earlier self to create a diversion, allowing him to rig the Pandorica to fly into the TARDIS explosion. The Doctor postulates that enough of the original universe still exists in the Pandorica to completely restore it via the exploding TARDIS. After a tearful farewell to Amy, Rory, and River, the Doctor engages the Pandorica and flies itinto the exploding TARDIS. A second Big Bang occurs. The Doctor comes to consciousness and begins witnessing events in his life in reverse as the cracks in the universe close.
I will be Mad. As. Hell. if they end the Rory/Amy companionship by having them die. So much of the past season was about The Doctor realizing that he had to let them go in order for them to have a happy life.
Did you also hear that it's going to be split up again? 6 eps, a Christmas special, and then 8 more eps. Argh...the waiting!
EFF! I forgot we already saw River die! Damn wibbly wobbly time lines.
Karen would really like them to kill off Amy though so I would be surprised if she actually lives.
I read that the new companion is supposed to take him on the "merriest dance yet". It's not quite the dark and brooding Doctor (and stories) that 9 and 10 were.
When did Karen say anything about getting killed off?
So, I feel like I know Amy and Rory (lol) and I if they only kill one or the other off and not both it will kill the other one. More so than leaving Rose in another dimension by herself. (Once again, lol at how invested I am) So if they do have to kill someone I hope its both of them in a firey heap of love or something equally fantastic.
Also, I can never think of 11 as dark and broody like 9 and 10. Matt Smith just doesnt pull of broody well. He can do The Oncoming Storm well, like in The Pandorica Opens, but broody and moody just doesnt happen.
As far as heartbreaking goes, I think it would be most heartbreaking for Rory to die. I've loved having a male companion along for the ride, considering where he started from when we were first introduced to him.
I think an alien companion would be awesome. Really awesome.
my blog
Rose got a mini-doctor. Martha got Mickey. Whatever happens to Amy and Rory, they had each other. Now Donna....Donna got a screw job.
